While I have just graduated this summer from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Computer Science, I have over two years of industry experience including hardware programming, network programming and programming device drivers. I feel confident that you will be interested in the assets and skills that I would bring to your company. Though I have academic and industry experience within a variety of computer-related fields, I’m particularly interested in a system-level or embedded development opportunity. There are two experiences that I am sharing with you to highlight my abilities.
Just this past year, I worked with a team of ISU students in the CSIDC software engineering competition sponsored by IEEE and Microsoft. It was an international competition that brought together over 270 student teams in the challenge to innovatively use technology to ‘make the world a safer place’. Our team was not only selected as a top ten finalist to demonstrate our project in Washington D.C. for the World Finals, but our team won third place overall and won the special Microsoft Software Engineering award for our excellent application of software engineering principles. Our success in this competition demonstrates my innovative approach to identifying and solving problems, ability to not only work effectively in a team environment but to strive in it, and detailed dedication that I place in all of my efforts.
I’d also like to draw attention to my experience at Systems (Private) Ltd, where I had the opportunity to do extensive hardware and lower-layer programming. One project that I worked on was developing an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) communications system for VoIP and analog hardware. This was a multi-threaded application in which my main responsibilities included programming and debugging hardware through vendor APIs, developing software to utilize the underlying hardware, and developing real-time networking protocols. In addition to this project, two other key projects that I worked on include: developing a network card device driver using Windows Driver Development Kit and developing a multitasking DOS application in x86 Assembly language that permits four simultaneously running processes.
It is these strong operating system and networking skills along with my motivation, team skills and creative problem solving that I will bring to your company.
