Name: Lang Maith
Title/Employer: President/CEO of Mall Lobby.com, Inc.
Age: 32
Education: Business administration/finance.
Tenure in IT industry: 13 years
First Tech Job: Repairing and configuring computers independently for neighbors and area businesses.
Current Role:
As President/CEO, I oversee all day-to-day operations in addition to exploring new contract opportunities for the company to expand. With IT being such a niche-based market, locating qualified resources is always a top priority in our service to various commercial and government sectors.
What's been your best job and why?
I honestly have to say each job has equally been my favorite. I feel that each position I've ever held has gotten me to the point where I am today. I can't lean toward one position more than the other simply because I've been fortunate to be surrounded by great people with great minds on all of my projects.
What do you think is the number one non-IT skill IT professionals need today?
A thirst for knowledge fueled by ambition.
What do you credit your career success to?
As I said before my prior employment relationships were a catalyst but also reading IT magazines and saying to myself that's going to be me one day on the front cover and actively working towards that goal.
What are the top three skills a high-level IT manager needs today?
- Knowledge of the project and all the intricate workings it entails.
- Positive attitude which encourages those around you.
- Great communication skills(written and verbal).
What's your favorite IT resource site and why?
TechNet is by far our "go to knowledge base".
What is the best career advice you've ever received?
The best advice actually came from my mother and grandmother and that was "You can be anything you want to be in this world so long as you put your mind to it and work hard."
What's the top advice you'd give to a new IT staffer?
You're not alone in your career journey so please know that we're to help you as best we can.
What would you advise someone looking to find the type of role you currently have?
Simply, check out our website at http://www.malllobby.com/job_announcements.htm every Wednesday and Saturday for our new job postings.
What is the one career decision you would change if you could?
As of now " none.
If you had the choice to jump into any other job, tech or non-tech, what would it be?
Believe it or not I would have to say a teacher. I think we need to invest more heavily into our children's future and their overall well-being. If we can create an educated society that promotes humanity with a firm focus on improving the quality of life for others then many of the problems we face in today's world would exist no more through medical breakthroughs, inventions, new discoveries, innovations in energy, etc.
