POSITION: FIBER OPTIC & COPPER SPLICING TECHNICIAN
BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Good knowledge off all fiber optic fusion and copper splicing techniques. Proficient in the use and interpretation of all electronic testing devices as OTDR, power meters, light source, millimeter, meggers, electronics line locators, cables locators associated with the Outside Plant telecommunication network. Knowledge in the interpretation of cable route layout, and schematic. Knowledge and very well related with the Bell Core Color Code. Skillful in all maintenance and restoration procedures. Under the supervision of his immediate supervisor or the senior technician he (she) will perform the following tasks: cable prepping, splicing or fusion as required, optical and/or electronic testing, quality assurance certification and create for future reference and records a performance history of the assigned job. Carry out all necessary corrective maintenance to all copper and/or fiber optic cable plant. This task include but are not limited to technical analysis, evaluation of performance and special conditions that may affect service, provide corrective actions or refer to the proper section for immediate resolution.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Carry out all fiber optic fusions and copper splicing. Maintains in optimum working conditions all equipment referred to in the Basic Function section of this document. Participates in all actions related to fiber optics and copper connectivity, acceptance test, maintenance and restoration in accordance with fusion, splicing and restoration specifications issued by the Outside Plant section. Complies with the company policies and regulations and all government or institutions that regulate the telecommunications services and safety rules in the work environment.
DUTIES:
1- With OSP schematics, exchange maps, fiber request form and the assistance of the supervisor make all
the necessary advance planning to effectively develop the assigned job.
2- Using proper tools & equipment perform the fiber fusion and/or copper cable splice as specify in the fiber request form and construction plans. Perform all job according to company policies and standard operating procedures (SOP).
3- Skillful in the installation of FO distribution panels, Patch cords, terminal blocks, splicing trays, splicing closures, modular and mechanical connectors, electrical protection devices as bonding, grounding, NID protectors and any other devices.
4- Carry out all necessary optical and/or electrical trouble shooting or acceptance test as required.
5- Prepares and updates records of all work performed.
6- Reads and interprets testing equipment graphics and values.
7- Complies with all technical and administrative policies/procedures develop with the purpose of maintaining a high quality service, such as but not limited to: Maintenance Plan, Production Measurements and Administrative Evaluations
8- Responsible for the security and operational condition of all tools, instruments, test equipment, computers, and vehicles assign for the performance of his duties
9- Responsible for maintaining all work areas in a clean and orderly state.
10- Ensures that the necessary spare parts, tools, instruments, test equipment are provided for the performance of his duties.
11- Removes and/or replaces equipment found to be defective. Turns-in and/or picks up equipment in company warehouses or any other designated location the equipment specified in the Basic Function section of this document.
12- Keeps informed of new techniques, equipment, tools, instruments and software
13- Conduct preventive maintenance testing in the outside plant associated with Centennial Broadband and wireless network.
14- Provides input in the preparation of documents related to the outside plant final acceptance test and any other document related to his basic duties
15- Installs, modifies and maintains test equipment used and required to perform his (her) duties
16- During and after the splicing process inspects the working area (company or customer premise) and provides feedback on the condition of the area. Will provide: report on all deficiencies detected. Working area most be left clean and free of any trash associated with the work performed.
17- Available to work out of normal business hours, over time and on call as required. Able to work under pressure.
18- Able to travel outside of Puerto Rico for job related business
19- Performs other functions in the department as required due to but not limited to personal absenteeism, high volume of work, special projects and/or emergency situations.
20- Provides assistance and training to new technicians and personnel from other operational areas.
RESPOSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY
- Employee relations - responsible for maintaining excellent interpersonal relations with coworkers and employees of other departments at all levels.
- Material/Products - responsible for the correct and economic usage of material.
- Equipment - responsible for the correct utilization of tools and related equipment within and outside the company premises. Responsible for the proper utilization of the company vehicles IA W Company policies and state traffic laws.
- Petty Cash - responsible for the prudent use of funds assigned for the purchased of installation/maintenance miscellaneous materials. Will provide all receipts and an expense report weekly to his supervisor.

Externally - subcontractors, equipment suppliers, customers, and technical personnel of other companies.
. EDUCATION:
Associate Degree in Electronics / telecommunications or electronic curse of 1000 hrs. Duration licensed by the State Council of Higher Education and the State Education Department and that includes a minimum of 200 hours of practice in the telecommunications area or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years experience in the Telecommunication industry, Broadband area preferred.
