Description

Entry level position. Design and develop software product applications for market sale or large-scale proprietary software applications for internal use. Manage full software development lifecycle including testing, implementation, and auditing. Perform product design, bug verification, and beta support which may require research and analysis.
Work under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment. Consult with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience. Basic skills with moderate level of proficiency.

Primary Responsibilities:
· Participate in software design meetings and analyze user needs to determine technical requirements.
· Develop and maintain systems or applications involving a wide variety of programming and languages.
· Build or configure windows, screens, and reporting solutions.
· Modify, repair, or expand existing programs to correct errors, increase efficiency, upgrade interfaces, or improve performance.
· Perform trial runs for testing and analysis on software and systems to identify problems.
· Contribute to training manuals or instructions for end users.
· Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented software.
· Research and remain informed of new technology and development tools.
· If creating product applications for market sale (rather than proprietary applications for internal use), may not be involved in all phases of software lifecycle (i.e., design, testing, implementation).
· Identify system solutions for customer needs and define system requirements necessary to operate system.
· Collaborate with other systems analysts/programmers to ensure that efforts are coordinated.
· Read loading and running instructions for system software such as task scheduling, memory management, computer file system, or controlling computer input and output, and load tape into tape drive or transfer software to magnetic disk.
· Initiate test of system program and observe readout on monitor of computer system to detect errors or work stoppage.
· Analyze performance indicators such as system's response time, number of transactions per second, and number of programs being processed at once, to ensure that system is operating efficiently.
· Change system software so that system performance will meet objectives.
· Review computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested changes to operating system are possible.
· Describe steps taken to modify system and procedures required to implement new software.
· Assist users having problems with use of system software.
· Train users, computer operator, and computer programmer to use system software.
· Prepare workflow charts and diagrams to modify system software.
· Visit vendors to observe demonstration of systems software.
· Administer and monitor computer program that controls user access to system.
· Review productivity reports and problem records to evaluate performance of computer system.
· Prepare estimates of the labor hours and calendar time required to analyze proposed changes to software and to analyze the root cause of operational problems.
· Other duties may be assigned to support the organization and its goals.

General Qualifications:
· Excellent communication, analytical, and development skills.
· May require programming certification.
· Knowledge of Java and C++ would be helpful.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
