Automation Engineer Department: Location:McLean, US
Basic Function:The Automation Engineer will be responsible for creating and maintaining the "glue" processes of the Angel infrastructure. In addition to being a Linux resource generally, they will define, code, test and debug the processes necessary for the smooth functioning of our platform.
Job Duties (include but not limited to):
* Split time between general Unix systems work and automation effort s * Gather requirements for backend and other systems automation * Design, test, debug and implement solutions to solve problems and increase reliability and performance * Act as a general senior Unix resource (installations, networking, system troubleshooting, design, etc) * Monitor equipment and circuits for proper operation * Provide 24x7 on call phone, email, and in-person support on a rotating basis * Build, image, install, maintain and administer Production, QA and Development systems hosted in-house and in collocation facilities * Document configurations and maintain such documentation per department Change Control methodologies * Participate in Operations and Tech projects on an as-needed basis
Job Requirements:
* 4 to 6 years experience in high-availability systems administration * Operational Experience with SAN's / J2EE App Servers (JBOSS especially) / Load Balancers (Call Platforms like Genesys or Nuance are a huge plus) * Unix expert – 4 + years of production SE/SA experience · Knowledge of Networking principles and administration of networking devices, such as Cisco, HP and Juniper switches, firewalls and routers
* At least 2 years experience of advanced scripting languages and techniques (bash, Capistrano, TCL, perl , Ruby) in high uptime production environments.
* At least 2 years experience in an on-call IT position · Knowledge of Change Management best practices · Experience with at least one systems monitoring tool, such as Nagios, WhatsUp Gold, HP Openview, NetCool · Knowledge of best practices for enterprise-level IT infrastructure
* Distributed Shell experience, development experience, previous Telecommunications industry experience all big plusses
* Individual must be available to be on-call 24x7 in rotation * Individual must be able to type at least 35 wpm * Individual must be able to quickly learn existing and new systems and software as needed to keep current with state-of-the-art * Individual must be able to run cable under floors and in overhead trays 9 feet above the floor * Individual must be able to lift and rack equipment weighing 70 Lbs. * Individual must be able to communicate clearly in English in verbal and written forms for communication with vendors and internal customers * Individual must be available for infrequent travel * Individual must be able to work occasional nights and weekends as required by duties
