POSITION SUMMARY:
Due to phenomenal business growth we are currently looking to fill a new role of BlackBerry Engineering Database Architect (DBA) within our North American Campus in the Waterloo office. This role will be a part of an overall architecture team consisting of Software development, Engineering and Operations to design the core BlackBerry service.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
This position will be engineering's database representative in the larger architectural process to design the service. The successful candidate will work on research projects to enhance the service including design participation and review. Physical tuning recommendations of the databases based on production statistics and data will also be a part of this role. This role will require the candidate to have good troubleshooting skills during simulations and testing to help identify issues whether in Oracle performance or working with other groups to identify issues with our software, storage or hardware from a database point of view. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: * Minimum of 8 years Oracle DBA experience in a large production environment (OLTP and/or DW) * Certification on Oracle 10g or higher * University degree in Math, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent * Candidates must possess technical leadership capabilities including the ability to formally document designs and implementations
ADDITIONAL ASSETS: * Understanding of storage systems including SAN and/or iSCSI * Knowledge of high availability methodologies (Veritas, Oracle Streams, etc) * HP Unix and/or Linux skills * HP Superdome experience * Programming skills (C , Java) * Oracle RAC
