Title: Business Object Architect / Data Architect Location: VA: VIRGINIA-FALLS CHURCH First and foremost you should be a Business Object Expert. You should have started as a developer, be capable of setting up Universe developing reports in WebX, Xcelcius and Crystal and be able to act and have acted as the lead architect on a Business Object project. If your resume doesn't clearly highlight this then you should include a cover letter outlining your experience. Second you need to be a Data Architect, be able to provide senior technical leadership, guidance, and support in the design, development, and deployment of complex data architectures. Specific emphasis will be focused on Data Warehousing, Data Integration, ETL, EAI, EII and Master Data Management technologies (including CDI and PDI) and BI work with Business Objects and it's Data Services tool. If all you have done is front end BI work with BOBJ developing reports and dashboards you are probably not a fit for this role. If your resume doesn't clearly highlight this then you should include a cover letter outlining your experience. Third this position requires weekly travel on a project basis (this mean you get on a plane every week and travel to the client site and return at the end of the week); candidates can live anywhere near a major airport. You should not apply if you have any travel restriction. Travel is in the US only. Essential Functions: (Below are some more detailed highlight but the above is the key) Provide senior technical leadership, guidance, and support in the design, development, and deployment of complex data architectures. Specific emphasis will be focused on Data Warehousing, Data Integration, ETL, EAI, EII and Master Data Management technologies (including CDI and PDI) and BI work with Business Objects and it's Data Services tool. Responsibilities: * Lead teams in developing Data Strategies and Roadmaps for the client * Understand the client environment (technical and business) and requirements and provide input to the project, account, and system teams * Participate with business architects and analysts in defining business requirements * Translate business requirements into documented data, application, and infrastructure requirements * Define and apply common best practices for the data architecture and communicate them to the user and development communities * Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models that reflect the requirements * Define data and data integration flows (e.g. ETL architecture) supporting the requirements * Define the data architecture(s) taking into account business and technical requirements, client environment, commercial tools, and stated project/program objectives. * Define and implement Data Quality programs. * Provide advanced troubleshooting and consulting services to the project team(s) when requested. Provide liaison with infrastructure support group in the areas of procurement, procurement scheduling, and architecture integration.
Essential Knowledge: MUST HAVE extensive experience in data design and architectures. Typically (but not always) this will have resulted from several years as a DBA or ETL developer. Deep knowledge of Data Integration techniques (e.g. Data Cleansing, Data Quality, ETL/EAI). Experience of CDI/PDI and/or other Master Data Management projects and tools is a bonus. The ability and experience to graphically model the architecture to communicate it?s intricacies to technical as well as business audiences is essential. Essential Education: BS/BA degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience plus 8-10 years of industry experience. Essential Skills: * Design and implementation of at least one of the following models: * Data Warehouse * ODS * Master Reference Data sets * Data Integration * CDI/PDI/MDM Data Repositories * Deep understanding of tools, techniques in at least one of the following areas: * * BI (Business Objects) a must * ETL * EAI * EII * Messaging * CDI/PDI/MDM * Understanding of tools and techniques in the following areas: * Data Cleansing/Quality * Data Profiling * Deep understanding of the relational database model * Must have familiarity with principle database engines, specifically Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2 * Must possess strong analytical ability and have a knowledge of modeling methodologies and tools, architecture, and data design principles * Should have an understanding of design and implementation of service level agreements * Must be an experienced consultant and be able to operate under pressure. A high level of communication skills (writing & presentation). The individual will have had experience using fact-based analytical approaches and be able to apply reasonability judgments to most situations. These judgments help determine the severity of the situation and the applicability of the solution.
