Job Description
•Maintenance and administration of existing v8 Cognos BI software/products in all environments (Dev, Test, Prod) and at all global data centers, to ensure optimal platform stability & performance. Includes: security, software installations, configuration updates, troubleshooting environment, etc.
•Installation and configuration of required new v10 Cognos BI software/products in all environments (Dev, Test, Prod) and at all global data centers. Create and maintain documentation detailing steps required. Maintenance and administration of the new v10 platform, to ensure optimal platform stability & performance. Includes: security, software installations, configuration updates, troubleshooting environment, etc.
•Review Cognos environments for capacity and performance related issues, and take steps necessary to resolve
•Maintain Cognos platform-level security
•Provide 3rd level Cognos software/product-related support for all incidents in all environments (Dev, Test, Prod) and at all global data centers. Provide direction to and govern activities of our 24x7 outsourced 2nd level support vendor (Wipro)
•Provide technical support to BI developers and project-level administrators building BI apps on the GIP (e.g. design/code reviews, security recommendation, etc.)
•Develop and maintain platform usage Policies
•Develop and maintain platform usage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
•Develop various resources to assist project teams/developers more effectively build BI apps on the GIP (e.g. Best Practices, Training docs/media)
•Platform Demand Forecasting & Capacity Planning
•Develop and analyze platform operational reports to monitor stability, performance and utilization to ensure optimal platform stability & performance
•Develop & maintain Baxter's global Cognos Technology Roadmap, to include continual evaluation of latest tools and technologies, making appropriate and timely recommendations and implementing approved changes
•Maintain vendor relationships and manage Vendor (e.g. Cognos) and Partner (e.g. data center) SLAs
•Co-chair monthly GIP Operations Review meetings, to report on platform operations and help provide a forum for project teams to showcase their work globally
Job Requirements
Functional:
•5+ years Cognos BI suite administration experience (v8 or higher), to include following products: Framework Manager, Transformer, PowerPlay, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Query Studio, and Metric Studio and SDK. Administration activities to include: software installations, configuration updates, security, reviewing environments for capacity and performance related issues and take steps necessary to resolve
•Multi-server installation and load balancer experience
•Cognos BI development experience preferred
•Other Data Warehouse development experience, particularly ETL (Baxter standard is IBM DataStage), a plus
•Transactional application development and/or administration experience a plus
•Cognos Planning and/or TM1 administrative experience a plus Technical:
•Solid understanding of relational data base concepts and SQL based information extraction
•Solid understanding of the JVM memory and thread management models
•Solid understanding of SOA concepts and web services implementations
•Solid understanding of the following common technologies: MS Windows, UNIX, SQL Server, Oracle, internet solutions, messaging middleware, enterprise network and messaging systems, and the AS400 environment
•Familiarity with JD Edwards ERP (E1) a plus General:
•4 year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
•Ability to coordinate and aggressively follow up on incidents and problems, perform diagnosis, and provide resolution to minimize service interruption
•Ability to work both independently and participate as a member of a cross-functional team
•Ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
•Strong interpersonal, organizational and self-sufficiency skills
