Cisco seeks a Consulting Systems Engineer (CSE) to provide expertise and experience to account teams across the US/Canada Theatre, assisting in building solutions to address specific customer needs. In this position, you will be working with motivated Application Networking Services sales specialists to position the Cisco Application Delivery and Optimization solutions effectively against competing offerings. Related technical knowledge in Wide Area Networks (WAN), Load Balancing and Application level protocols is essential. Sales skills and experience are also important.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating at multiple levels across functions within Customers, Channel Partners and internal business units. Provide mentoring and coaching to new AN SE's, and as time permits create whitepapers/training materials/tech notes for the SE sales force. 8. Work with ESE, PTMO, ADBU, DCAP and CMO formulating App vendor relationships and drive our product into their solution sets (Siebel, Oracle, SAP, etc)
Responsibilities: 1. Provide specific solution/technology/product consulting, technical and expert sales support for major account opportunities. (i.e. technical consulting, upper level management presentations, and Cisco technology solutions) while allowing local account team to maintain long-term ownership. (Major account focus may require increased travel responsibilities from time to time) 2. Use expert knowledge to understand customer business requirements, translate them into technical requirements and map these to Cisco's differentiated value proposition. 3. Architecture and design data center application-networking solutions specifically focused on load balancing and server offload 4. Understand Cisco's Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) & Application Control Engine (ACE) Technology, Architectures and Services at an expert level. Position how WAAS/ACE adds value within Cisco Data Centre / Virtualization and Borderless Network Architectures. Create, articulate, document and present technical solutions. 5. Perform in-depth and high-level technical presentations for customers, partners, influencers up to, and including hands-on demo and proof of concept work plus in-depth competitive positioning. 6. Facilitate communications and understanding of priority requirements between customers, corporate business units, field sales teams, channel partners and key influencers. 7. Nurture an extended virtual team of specialists, providing consultative support and mentoring for less experienced Systems Engineers in assigned major account opportunities and territories.
Skills and Experience: 1. Leading-edge technical knowledge and consultative skills above reproach, with in-depth industry knowledge in the appropriate market segment(s). Typically requires BS/BA (EE/CS) or equivalent. 2. 5+ Years of related technical experience requires an in-depth knowledge of layer 4-7 protocols is a must; networking technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SSL, MAPI, SIP, Web performance parameters, and experience with switches, routers, and firewalls in Intranet/Internet/Extranet environments. Strong UNIX O/S and Windows Server knowledge is a plus, with solid understanding of NFS/CIFS protocols important but not required. Expert knowledge of http, https with working knowledge of html and xml. 3. Troubleshoot client to server issues. Solid working knowledge of high availability architectures, TCP/IP, Switching, VLANs and Routing (L2/3). Solid knowledge of streaming media technologies (RTP/RTSP, MPEG, WMT, Real, QuickTime) a plus but not required. A key requirement is for the SE to be able to explain in detail, granular packet walk-throughs of supported solutions and how they interact with and compliment the Cisco Data Center product lines. 4. Experience with enterprise class application deployment/support is essential: SAP, Oracle with strong technical skills in application deployment in Data Centers and over WANs. 5. In-depth knowledge and experience with virtualization, local and remote load balancing technology and use cases extending to competitive offerings for at least two vendors from this list: Riverbed, Blue Coat, Radware and F5 6. Cisco product experience and specific solution/ technology/ product positioning required or product experience in key competitor offerings. CCIE or CCNP certification highly desirable or 10+ years experience in Networking 7. Ability to work effectively, add value as a team member and assume a leadership role with ability to train and disseminate information to other SEs and Channel Partners as an extended virtual team. 8. The ability to display strength working closely with Development Engineering, Product Managers, and Technical Support organizations is a key element of this position. In-depth industry knowledge in the appropriate market segment(s) and in-depth technical knowledge in at least one area of specialization/solution. Strong interpersonal, presentation skills, excellent written, verbal communication, listening, and negotiation skills are necessary. Ability to work effectively, collaboratively, and add value & leadership as a team member for the team. Demonstrated technical knowledge and consultative skills. Ability to train and disseminate technical and competitive information within area of expertise. Technical knowledge and consultative skills in Cisco core technologies (Routing & Switching) are mandatory. Ability to understand complex technical and selling situations and the ability to solve the problem or solicit the required resources. 9. Excellent English written and verbal communication, listening, negotiation and presentation skills.
