Data Architect
Position Description The Data Architect is responsible for creating the blueprint of the company information architectures. The Data Architect will provide expertise and direction in implementing Data Architecture practices at this fast pace healthcare portal/clearinghouse. The Data Architect will be responsible for leading Data Architecture governance and planning activities. The Data Architect will also conduct Data Architecture development activities to inventory and analyze the company’s data assets, and research/evaluate/support adoption of Data Architecture best practices. The Data Architects bridge the gap between business and the implementation of the databases. Data Architects provide expertise as it relates to articulating business requirements into data models, decision-making of the implementation and the overall enterprise data architecture. The enterprise depends upon this position to have extensive knowledge of data trends in order to support current and future opportunities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Contribute to strategic and tactical projects to drive and define Data and Information Architecture and Strategy • Participate in the development of enterprise data dictionaries and information exchange documentation • Analyzing business requirements and functional specifications and being able to derive Data Architectures that support the requirements • Developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models • Provide support on use of common enterprise information models and promote their use and enhancement by new projects • Provides architectural consultation/education to the organization. "Sells" the data architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results • Gains alignment and buy-in of technical architecture and clarifies understanding of standards • Collaborates with DBAs to facilitate the implementation, maintenance and integration of new structures being deployed. • Contribute to the Enterprise Data Governance • Tactical data analysis, data requirements gathering / documentation, data mapping, and data modeling • Provide facilitation and data analysis support to various data governance working groups • Identify and manage metadata quality control procedures • Create appropriate standards, processes, and tool recommendations to promote and facilitate overall integration of data management metadata with a focus on information quality • Define and prepare system documentation and/or diagrams to describe existing and proposed metadata application processes • Assist with Metadata and Data Modeling application integration and specification documentation • Support enterprise data management methodology, associative standards and data strategies with respect to metadata and data modeling applications WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS (Required) • Defining and implementing data architectures and related strategic technologies, preferably across a multinational organization • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work independently under minimal guidance. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, supporting all other team members. • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and make sound decisions. • Ability to work under pressure. Maintains composure and professionalism in an interrupt-driven environment. Must be able to multi-task. • Experience in the writing of detailed technical documentation, specifically business and data flow specifications. • Experience with facilitating JAD sessions or other requirements gathering processes. • Extensive knowledge of the health care/payer/provider/insurance industry, specifically standard HIPAA transactions processing systems, provider office operations, and customer service processes in a health care company. • Experience / fluent with XML • Basic understanding of OOAD, UML paradigms and database support. • Must have a demonstrated proficiency using PC skills, MS Suite products, and flowcharting tools. • Must have a demonstrated proficiency using a data modeling tool, ERWIN preferred. WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS (Preferred) • Understanding of web development methodologies, application design, navigation, and information architecture. • Experience working with Product Management teams in a large marketing department. • Experience working in an entrepreneurial company. • Exhibits all core competencies for Availity. • Working knowledge of MySQL, Sun IDM and AM, Unix (AIX) and Linux knowledge • Experience in developing and implementing data governance/data stewardship procedures. • Experience in developing and implementing information architecture integration standards and guidelines. • Excellent understanding of HIPAA Implementation Guides EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION (Required) • BS, BA degree in software or systems engineering, computer science, information systems management, or the equivalent. • At least 6 years overall experience in Data Architecture, including: data asset classification, data exchange definition, data naming standards, data modeling, data interoperability standards, data governance.
