The Battelle Centers for Public Health Research and Evaluation (CPHRE) specializes in providing research and data collection services in the area of public health for government, academic and private industry clients. Battelle is seeking a professional with strong GIS and data management experience to join a group of researchers located in Columbus, OH to conduct quantitative public health research across a variety of client-sponsored research projects. The successful candidate will assist in sampling design projects that require GIS methods, data analysis projects that require spatial modeling expertise, and projects/programs that require data management expertise. The candidate will also assist with the management and implementation of large-scale field studies - including the Healthy Communities Study.
Ideal candidates for this position will have direct experience in the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software and Data Management approaches to support public health projects, including the following:
· Strong experience managing large amounts of data
· Use of ESRI software and/or other GIS applications for managing spatial data
· Management of analysis and survey projects, including budget development, staffing, and analysis and reporting
· Development, implementation, and evaluation of research studies for public health clients
· Strong project management skills
Other responsibilities include:
· Organize and lead successful research projects in CPHRE strategic areas, or with strategic clients.
· Establish and maintain professional relationships with clients.
· Train, mentor, and provide technical leadership and direction for more junior staff.
· Provide responsible, competent, technical advice to management.
· Participate in multiple, assigned research projects with a minimum of supervision and within time and budget constraints.
· Support preparation, presentation, and follow-up on research proposals.
· Plan and carry out appropriate professional self-development activities.
· Perform other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelors degree in computer science, biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology or relevant public health or environmental research field and at least 5 years of experience in leading or directing data management and/or GIS tasks for public health research projects
· Evidence of exemplary project planning and management abilities
· Advanced experience with ArcGIS Desktop software
· Experience with Stata, SAS, R, or other statistical software packages
· Familiarity with working in server environment
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
· Ability to safeguard confidential data and follow security protocols
· Strong analytical, multi-tasking, problem solving, and organizational skills
· Attention to detail and adaptability
· Excellent written/verbal communication skills and ability to follow and develop process specifications
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with SQL, SQL Server, Visual Basic, and related database and analytical tools
· Database Administration experience
