Summary Plans, maintains, secures and develops databases.

1. Installation of new software - It is primarily the job of the DBA to install new versions of DBMS software, application software, and other software related to the DBMS. It is important that the DBA or other IT staff members test this new software before it is moved into a production environment. 2. Configuration of hardware and software with the system administrator - In many cases the system software can only be accessed by the system administrator. In this case, the DBA must work closely with the system administrator to perform software installations, and to configure hardware and software so that it functions optimally with the DBMS. 3. Security administration - One of the main duties of the DBA is to 4. monitor and administer DBMS security. This involves adding and removing users, administering quotas, auditing, following and conforming to Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS) and checking for security problems. 5. Data analysis - The DBA will frequently be called on to analyze the data stored in the database and to make recommendations relating to performance and efficiency of that data storage. This might relate to the more effective use of indexes, performance monitoring, or other DBMS specific features. 6. Database design - The DBA is often involved at the preliminary database-design stages. Through the involvement of the DBA, many problems that might occur can be eliminated. The DBA knows the DBMS and system, can point out potential problems, and can help the development team with special performance considerations. 7. Data modeling and optimization - By modeling the data, it is possible to optimize the system layout to take the most advantage of the DBMS and it's subsystems. 8. Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata'). 9. Ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly. 10. Other duties as assigned.
Supervision This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience 1. Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology preferred or equivalent work experience 2. 5 yrs equivalent work experience 3. 3 yrs programming and batch scripting 4. 3 yrs Oracle 9i experience 5. 5 yrs SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 experience 6. 2 yrs MS Access and Excel experience 7. Ability to communicate with end users, developers, IT staff and management, project managers. 8. Project management experience
Computer Skills Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications using the MS Office Suite, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Clearance: MCDBA or OCA/OCP certifications desirable Customer Service: Manages difficult or emotional customer situations. Responds promptly to customer needs.
