Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under close supervision, assists in administering database organization, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation. Provides entry level technical consulting in the definition, design, creation and operation of a database environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Description: Under close supervision, assists in administering database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation. Provides entry level technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a data base environment. Develops applications to help formulate database solutions to business problems, data architectures, data base management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of databases. Maintains databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods. Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, and integration of systems through database design. Maintains database dictionaries. Maintains and documents JCL, shell scripts and batch processes. Ensures that documentation is complete and up-to-date. Applies procedures for periodic database backup. Requires bachelor's degree or equival ent, and zero to two years of related experience.

Under close supervision, candidate will perform and troubleshoot various data loads from DoD source systems into an Enterprise-wide Data Warehouse; create and maintain data loading procedures.

Requires:

* Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science or related field)

* At least 1 year of experience administrating SQL Server 2000, to include working with tables and stored procedures. Additional experience with SQL Server 2005/2008 a plus.

* Flexibility and the ability to work in a team environment

* Excellent communication skills

Assists in the design and definition of basic databases, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation and statistical methods.

Develops expertise in use of automated tools for database design and implementation.

Assists in the design and maintenance of logical and physical data models (relational & dimensional), data dictionary and database volumetrics.

Works to define basic file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for specific user applications.

Maintains database dictionaries, monitors standards and procedures and integration of systems through database design with close supervision.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date knowledge of database information and requirements for maximizing database potential.

Helps to provide assistance to various clients as required for database design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

Maintains standards and documentation.

Assists senior database analyst staff in the identification and resolution of production and/or applications.

Assists in analysis and design activities associated with the development and maintenance of the database.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field) or equivalent, and zero to two years of related experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
