Title: Database Engineer Sr Professional - Previous White House Access Required Location: DC: DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA-DEFAULT DC Contractor will be responsible for managing current SQL Server 2000 databases, performing SQL server administration, database performance tuning, security, and maintenance and troubleshooting of all scheduled jobs including DTS tasks. DBA will also be responsible for supporting the application development team in designing, modeling and creating databases, stored procedures, triggers etc., and moving all database objects from the development to the production environment. DBA will ensure that all database environments are maintained and up to date with current security patches. DBA will develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery plans. DBA will design, develop and implement mappings/transformations based on source-to-target specifications, provide design input to the data integration architecture, assist in defining ETL development standards and conventions, perform monitoring and tuning of ETL jobs, and provide operational support to production ETL processes and code on an as-needed basis. Contractor will provide operational support for data warehouse as well as prepare project plans and schedules for database-related implementation and support efforts. Contractor will communicate regularly with internal technical development and operations support staff, as appropriate, in order to ensure the database integrity, security, and availability. Contractor must be able to recover corrupted data , eliminate data redundancy, and use tuning tools to improve database performance. Contractor will maintain physical data models from logical data models, implement and maintain physical database systems, and ensure that test data (development environment) is current and functioning. Contractor will be responsible for replication between the SQL Server databases using merge replication. Contractor will perform tuning of the relational database management systems and related application databases. Contractor will assist development staff for applications design and development, specifically for transaction design, data warehouse systems, client-server applications, etc. DBA will evaluate database management systems and related tool sets. Contractor will monitor assigned organization operational and development projects to ensure consistency and satisfaction of database support requirements, interact with and assist system administrators to provide a compatible and effective database environment, and design and implement security access infrastructure. When SQL Server 2005 is released, the DBA will become proficient in all tasks mentioned above for this product. Contractor will also be responsible for the tuning, backup and administration of the Agency's ORACLE database and will support replication of data from the SQL Server database to the ORACLE database Essential Job Functions * Participates in client/project meeting(s) for needs assessment and design review. Analyzes the needs and requirements of users of existing and proposed database systems and develops technical, structural and organizational specifications to include access methods, access time, job control language, statistical methodologies, device allocation, validation checks, protection and security. * Designs, develops, implements and maintains moderately complex database for internal and external users/clients. * Creates, documents and implements standards and/or modeling to monitor and enhance the capacity and performance of the database. Programs and writes codes as necessary. Develops data import and export routines to automate data loading. Builds windows, screens and reports. * Performs analyses and reviews complex applications being released into production. Develops test application code in client server environments to ensure that software conforms to build management practices. * Develops back-up and recovery procedures and data archive/purge procedures. Creates supporting technical documentation. * Remains abreast of and analyzes new and emerging technologies and tools for applicability to field. Prepares reports and/or recommendations of new and/or changing processes/products. * Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel. Basic Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience * Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, business administration, software engineering or related field preferred * Seven or more years of database engineering, design, development experience * Experience working with relational data modeling * Experience working with data warehousing * Experience working with relational databases such as SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle, etc. * Experience working with database development methodologies, design and implementation Other Qualifications * Good analytical and problem solving skills * Good communication skills * Good personal computer and business solutions software skills * Good, demonstrated skills in using a Windows development language, programming or scripting such as VBScript, COM, COM , XML, Java, Perl, etc. * Good interpersonal and human relations skills to interact with clients and less experienced personnel * Ability to comprehend and integrate business unit/client needs into appropriate database system
