Design and Analysis Engineer 1
Training Systems & Government Services has an immediate need for an entry level Engineer in support of trainer design and modification activities. Engineer will assist with the development and documentation of electronic and electrical system requirements. Develops or modifies basic hardware and software designs based on defined requirements. Performs system tests to verify operational and functional requirements. Assists in monitoring suppliers' performance to ensure compliance with requirements. Supports resolution of product integration issues and production anomalies. Researches basic technologies for potential application to company business needs for the Trainer Suite. Engineer will support design team for component design, requirements to suppliers, integration and test of simulated crew stations. The Engineer will work closely with a multi-disciplined team to support design, test and implement solutions in some existing trainer suites. Engineer will aide in requirements development and solutions to issues related to upgrade/Mod design. Engineering activities will include but will not be limited to support of analysis, design, hardware specification creation, manufacturing data development, hardware development and integration of flight crew training devices for government and commercial customer sites. Current projects include development and upgrades to training devices utilized in support of the following programs, AH64D Longbow Apache Helicopter, F-15 Eagle, F/A-18 Super Hornet, F-16 Falcon, F-22 Raptor, P-8A Poseidon, and T-45 Goshawk.
Successful Candidate should be familiar with technical elements required to support design and modification of computer systems for video distribution, Power distribution and safety systems, Distributed I/O systems, simulated aircraft communication systems, DC power distribution, wire harness design, electronic/electrical engineering design tools, Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems and National Electrical Code. Some basic knowledge of various military and commercial bus architectures such as: Fibre Channel, 1553, RS232, RS433, SCRAMNET and ARINC429 are also desired.
Competencies
General• Collaboration
Makes an effort to work effectively and cooperatively with fellow work group members; establishes and maintains productive working relationships by involving other work group members as appropriate and thanking them for their assistance. Places higher priority on work group goals rather than on own goals; offers to help other employees when they need assistance.
• Communication
Makes an effort to clarify purpose and importance; stresses major points; follows a logical sequence. Tries to keep the audience engaged through use of techniques such as analogies, illustrations, humor, an appealing style, body language, and voice inflection. With guidance from others frames messages in line with audience experience, background, and expectations; tries to use terms, examples, and analogies that are meaningful to the audience. Occasionally seeks input from audience; checks understanding; tries to present message in different ways to enhance understanding. Uses syntax, pace, volume, diction, and mechanics appropriate to the media being used. Interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; at times requires guidance from others on how to respond.
• Continuous Improvement
With guidance from others, reviews routine processes to identify gaps between requirements and current outputs within own work group. Generally identifies potential conditions that contribute to gaps or key variances; tries to explore relationships between conditions and effects; distinguishes causes from symptoms and identifies causes. Occasionally generates basic ideas for solutions; analyzes the effect or impact of each solution on own work group; selects appropriate solutions. Generally tests solutions; gathers feedback on effectiveness; reviews impact on baseline measures; modifies solutions as appropriate to ensure effectiveness.
• Customer Focus
Understands customers and their needs and considers such factors in the completion of day-to-day job tasks and responsibilities; supports more experienced employees as required to develop and sustain productive customer relationships; uses available information to understand customer related circumstances, problems, and needs; considers how day-to-day actions will affect customers; responds quickly to help more experienced employees meet customer needs and resolve problems.
Technical• Computer Aided Design Tools
Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).
• Flight Simulator Build Process
Basic knowledge of simulator build processes (e.g., manufacturing testing, approval) and related aircraft hardware and/or data.
• Mech/Elec Design Tech
Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical design techniques (e.g., machine and mechanisms design, sheet metal design, equipment installation design, wire harness design, control systems design). Knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., PSpice, AutoCAD, CATIA, Unigraphics).
• Requirements/Tracing
Basic familiarity with how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle
• Retrofit Design
Basic knowledge of retrofit engineering. Able to follow directions for routine work under close supervision; receives detailed instructions for specific assignments.
• Tech Verification/Validation
Basic knowledge of technical data verification and validation practices (e.g., Technical review of Engineering Data, Laboratory simulation, or actual procedure demonstration).
