Our Edmonton client requires up to three (3)Senior Desktop SupportProfessionals for the long term contract.
Project Duration
The term will be for 8 months starting in May 2010, with the possibility of two extensions for up to one year on each occasion.
Project Overview
Service Alberta provides a shared services delivery model that commits to high quality services through cost-effective delivery of services.
This is accomplished through provision of shared support services in the areas of administration, finance, human resources, and information and communications technology (ICT).
In support of this mission, Service Alberta is responsible for the delivery of ICT infrastructure services to Alberta Government Ministries.
These services include management and support of desktops, provision of network access, management of network security and operations, provision and support of common tools, server and storage management, service delivery and support, technical consulting, project management and application hosting.
The GoA shared ICT Services environment currently supports a number of ministries. This shared ICT infrastructure reflects a corporate approach to information technology which has emerged in the GoA in recent years. Full benefits of the shared ICT infrastructure will only be realized when all ministries are integrated with the GoA domain.
Enterprise Services requires up to 3 individual Desk Side Analyst Resource(s) of Senior level experience. The Desk Side Analyst Resource(s) will represent corporate and project interests to various project stakeholders and in providing excellent customer services. The Desk Side Analysts' primary role will be collecting useful project information, performing desktop readiness and deploying desktops to various office locations throughout Alberta.
These resource(s) should have working knowledge of domain integration. We require this resource to have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal. A proven ability to function on an individual basis and in a team/group environment is essential. The prospective candidate requires a broad knowledge and experience with a large-scale infrastructure implementation. Resource must adhere to existing Government of Alberta (GoA) and department policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and practices.

Deliverables
As part of the ICT SC initiative to migrate ministries to the consolidated GoA domain environment, the Desk Side Analyst(s) is required to:
* Lead a team of desktop deployment analysts and ensure work is completed successfully
* Diagnose and troubleshoot customer problems with desktop hardware and software installations via telephone and/or remote tools or site visits when required
* Provide front-line telephone support (Tier 1) and/or onsite support (Tier 2) as required
* Perform new desktop hardware installations, upgrades, and maintenance as required
* Certification of new applications in the desktop environment
* Planning for software and hardware upgrades
* Use helpdesk administration software (ITSM7) to log problems, requests, issues, concerns, errors and document their resolution
* Provide service within established policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and practices
* Provide service and support for applications and functions unique to the worksite/business unit
* Assist clients and provide coaching on new/existing hardware and software
* Creation of reports from SMS or other databases for management of workstation devices
* Collect site information as required
* Collect and rationalize user desktop information as required
* Maintain quota management for file servers
* Status reporting and other duties as required
* Develop and maintain documentation as required
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
* Formal education in Information Technology - 4 yrs Degree or 2 yrs Diploma or 1 yrs Certificate
* Shall travel, as required, to customer sites within Alberta. Yes/No

DESIRABLE PROVISIONS
* Technical experience working with Windows 2000/Windows XP Professional - 2 years
* Technical experience with Microsoft Office 2000/2003 including MS Outlook - 2 years
* Technical experience working with Internet Explorer v. 7 - 6 months
* Technical experience working with Intel-based PCs (such as Compaq, Dell, IBM, etc.) - 2 years
* Technical experience with Intel-based Notebooks (such as Compaq, Dell, IBM, etc.) - 6 months
* Technical experience with networked printers - 3 months
* Experience and skill in troubleshooting and problem resolution for software and hardware issues - 6 months
* Experience functioning on an individual basis and in a team/group environment - 6 months
* Proven ability and willingness to work technical support stand-by (evenings and weekends) - Demonstrated history
* Experience retaining new information and being adaptive in a rapidly changing IT environment - 6 months
* Experience working in the government environment - 1 year
* Experience working on domain integration - 1 year
* Experience working with ITSM7 - Any
* Available to start in May 2010 - Yes/No
