Job description POSITION (OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE)
The DSS has overall responsibility for managing Desktop systems and computing resources for the site/region in which they are located. This person must determine the needs of the user community and ensure that the Retail Technology organization is providing systems that meet those needs.
Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Define and monitor service standards for Macintosh based systems and services and work to ensure a consistency of service for all Desktop users in the UK. -Manage the ordering and distribution of computer equipment for corporate team and local Retail Technology team -Implement and maintain Desktop Standards -Be a active and innovative team member, contributing to development and effectiveness and undertaking other tasks as required. -Establish effective communications flows with users. -Stay abreast of advances in technology -Evaluate use of technology in the organization -Recommend improvements in technology (hardware and software upgrades) -Recommend and assist in the evaluation of new techniques and tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the users in their work. -Monitor and suggest performance improvements. - Assimilate the users needs for Desktop training and relay this to their manager. -Provide and maintain centralized Mac based services to benefit the user community -Provide technical and management support for effective use of these services. -Perform security analysis and administration as required. -Define and maintain Backup and Disaster Recovery procedures for these services. -Schedule installations and upgrades
REQUIRED SKILLS / JOB EXPERIENCE - Normally requires a BS in Computer Science or equivalent. - Minimum of 3 years experience in MIS -Experience in UNIX/Macintosh platforms -Project management experience -Fluency in English -Thorough understanding of Mac OS -Working knowledge of LAN technologies used at Apple -General business knowledge, with knowledge of company structure. -Excellent communication skills verbal and written.
