Overview
As a mid level member of the development team, a Development Systems Engineer II RS must possess ingenuity and ability to handle various projects and a wide range of complex system engineering problems demonstrating an appreciable degree of latitude in problem solving. Strong communications skills are required to effectively consult with customers in providing recommended architectual solutions and to serve as a mentor to the support team members and junior Development SE's in the area of middleware.
Responsibilities
Essential duties/responsibilities include: * Support the software services team in the installation and maintenance of the middleware infrastructure. * Support the software development, quality assurance and support teams in the installation and maintenance of wireless networks, VLANS, assisting with remote connectivity issues. * Ability to travel both domestically and internationally. * Work with the customer and technical architect to tune the infrastructure for optimal performance. * Train the customer on the installation and administration of the middleware infrastructure. * Participate in the deployment of products and middleware infrastructure. * Act as a consultant to the development team and to external customers. * Provide Level 2 customer support for middleware issues. * Mentor junior team members. General duties/responsibilities include: * Participate and contribute as a member of the team. * Promote and maintain Agilysys Values and Standards. * Organize and effectively use information. * Each Development SE may be on-call to handle customer issues once every four to five weeks depending on the depth of the team. * Other duties and/or tasks as assigned by management.
Requirements
Required Qualifications/Experience: * Computer Science Degree, extensive certifications, or extensive professional experience. * 3+ years experience and exposure to XML, XML Schemas, and XML Parsers; and with the development of software code in an object oriented environment. * 3 - 5 years of system engineer experience, middleware support experience or retail support center experience. * Demonstrated initiative to maintain certifications and to stay current with technology and Retail trends through industry trade journals and self-paced training and ability to utilize knowledge of current trends to generate ideas for new assets. * Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills and ability to participate in and contribute to team and customer meetings. * Ability to decipher requirements to build new assets and solve customer business issues that help grow revenue. * Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on changing priorities and customer requests. Preferred Qualifications/Experience: * CCDA, CCNA, CWNA, MCSE, Websphere, DB2 and A+ certifications a plus. * Current administrative, consultative, or development experience with two or more of the following: WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere MQ, DB2, Oracle Application Products, JBoss, and/or Geronimo (all would be preferred). * 3+ years experience using the JDBC API and configuring JDBC Drivers preferred. * 3+ years experience using the JMS API and configuring JMS Providers preferred. * Exposure to the ARTS data model is preferred. * Current database architect or database development experience with two or more of the following: Oracle, DB2, MySQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server (all would be preferred).
