Huron Consulting Group's Higher Education Consulting practice is a national leader in providing consulting services to universities, hospitals, research institutes, and academic medical centers to develop and implement solutions that address the operational and regulatory requirements consistent with each institution’s unique culture. Typically, Huron consultants work directly with and report to the client's senior financial, operational, and technology executives, and work closely with personnel throughout the organization.
Subject Matter Responsibilities: Directors in the Higher Education Consulting practice assist higher education clients with comprehensive strategic and organizational assessment of the institution’s information technology capabilities, with primary focus on cost reduction and long-term transformation to facilitate and support institutional mission activities and strategic objectives. In this role, Directors lead teams and work in conjunction with other Huron and client team members throughout a project that may focus on any or all of the following efforts:
* Assessing the alignment of the information technology function with the strategic priorities of the institution, as well as institutional customer needs. * Assessing the effectiveness of governance, communications, policy and procedure, planning and budgeting, project prioritization, and project management related to administrative, academic, and research systems. * Assessing the strength and approach to underlying critical information technology infrastructure (e.g., networks, server room(s) and strategy, security, backup, risk mitigation). * Benchmarking segments of the information technology function against other higher education institutions. * Developing recommendations to promote more efficient, effective, and flexible delivery of information technology services. * Identifying opportunities to promote cost efficiencies through consolidation of expenditures. * Determining the appropriate level of information technology resources (both staff and funding) necessary to support the needs of the institution. * Articulating the optimal organization of information technology resources within the central information technology organization, as well as between central and local information technology units. * Assessing the degree to which information technology sourcing can reduce cost as a result of standardization, price discounts, and demand management.
Because of the complex nature of the projects and the seniority of the client representative, a high level of sophistication related to communication, creativity, project management, problem solving, financial management, and institutional strategic planning are key requirements for success.
Directors are responsible for managing a portfolio of projects and business development activities. The position involves significant on-site client contact with travel three to four days each week and overall client, team, and practice management. Directors provide guidance and supervision to Managers, Associates, Analysts, subcontractors, and client personnel.
Job Responsibilities: Directors in the Higher Education Consulting practice also have the following job responsibilities: * Lead and focus team efforts in data gathering and analysis, data interpretation, and formulating conclusions and recommendations. * Provide superior project management and planning skills to leverage available Huron and client resources. * Lead team efforts to ensure client goals and objectives are met, including delivering results on time and within budget. * Lead multiple information technology projects simultaneously. * Conduct client interviews related to the specific information technology work scope. * Participate in practice management which includes tools, methodologies, recruiting, people development and proposals, as appropriate. * Play a key role in the professional development and performance review of staff, including the mentoring and recruiting of staff. * Provide quality control for work done by engagement team. * Prepare and conduct client status reports and create and/or supervise the delivery of client presentations that demonstrate a superior command of the facts and tell a convincing story. * Develop strong client relationships to expand current projects and identify new business and cross-selling opportunities. * Communicate effectively with all levels of client staff and manage day-to-day client relationships. * Take a lead role in developing sales decks, white papers, conference presentations and other marketing support activities. * Be conversant with and develop a “trusted business advisor” capacity to guide client decisions regarding all aspects of information technology strategy and operations. Job Requirements:
Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field. * Preferred, advanced degree in Information Technology with emphasis in business and management or MBA with Information Technology concentration. * Current or recent consulting experience providing professional services related to Information Technology optimization. * Prior experience in performing assessements of IT functions preferred. * Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or similar certification preferred. * More than ten years work experience in the information technology arena. * Strong familiarity with data center, network, telecom and help desk management. * Familiarity with instructional design and learning management systems. * Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills. * Proven thought leadership as indicated by speaking engagements and/or publications. * Passion and drive for business development and problem solving. * Strong understanding of IT department budgeting, capital planning, cost allocations and chargeback rate development. * Ability to translate client needs and feedback into coherent recommendations. * Excellent communication skills - oral and written - and the interpersonal skills needed quickly to establish relationships of trust and collaboration * Excellent time-management and prioritization skills * Ability to manage multiple projects of differing scale and duration * Desire and willingness to learn new tools, techniques, concepts, and methodologies.
