With an eye to the future, Crouse-Hinds ALP illuminates the way. Summary of Position: Respond to market conditions by integrating next generation products into portfolio. Perform engineering work and development of aviation/avionic lighting products. Design and develop new products or enhancements based on principles of illumination and lighting using a wide range of electrical and electronic products. Work includes electrical design and evaluation, with emphasis on quality, schedule, manufacturability, and cost. Provide technical direction to supporting personnel to resolve design and related manufacturing problems. Ensure production feasibility of designs and provide production support of electrical products, as required. Job Requirements :
Principal Accountabilities: * Analyze product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing or new manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Review designs to assure compliance with customer requirements and applicable industry standards. * Develop new, or enhance existing, electrical and electronic designs to meet requirements for a power supply that interfaces with florescent lighting and/or LEDs. * Use design and simulation tools as appropriate to the project. * Plan and organize project work (MS Project experience a plus). * Direct technician as needed to complete objectives including prototyping and testing. * Design SMD and through hole printed circuit boards and work with outside layout resources (CADSTAR experience a plus). * Provide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning. * Prepare complete package needed to document design including: * Schematics * Printed circuit board documentation * Assembly drawings (AUTOCAD experience a plus) * Parts lists * Test procedures * Test equipment * Operator and service manuals * Develop and direct or perform experimental tests to ensure design meets requirements. * Bring product to agencies to obtain product approvals. * Develop statements of work to direct outside design and/or production resources. * Participate in design reviews and FMEA. * Participate in safety reviews of new or modified products to assure safe performance and manufacturability. * Work with manufacturing groups to transition the product from design into production including design input, pilot run and production release. * Recommend tools, equipment, procedures, and training to enhance department and personal productivity. * Purchase prototype parts so must be familiar with vendors and purchasing methods. * Maintain healthy respect for high voltage (to 5000VAC) and high power (to 70kVA). * Evaluate engineering test results for possible application to developments of systems or other uses. * Use multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power meters, and other test equipment. * Write technical reports and develop charts, graphs and schematics to describe and illustrate system’s operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications and functional limitations. Qualifications: BSEE with 5+ years of experience in product design covering a broad range of technical areas. Emphasis on electronic power supply design experience. The qualified candidate will be able to work hands on in the lab and handle several projects simultaneously.
