Daily Responsibilities: SRA in Linwood, NJ is under contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide technical support in conducting research and development for the FAA's William J. Hughes Technical Center's Airport Technologies R&D Branch. This particular position will primarily focus on airport visual guidance and airfield lighting related areas.

Some of the areas that the successful candidate will be working on includes:
- evaluating the useful life of LED lighting fixtures;
- evaluating of internally lighted wind cones;
- small scale testing of various airfield lighting systems designed for alternative airport lighting electrical infrastructures;
- plan for developing and implementing a Visual Guidance and Airport Design test facility;
- perform photometric testing of airfield lighting visual aids.

This position requires knowledge in airfield lighting, constant current, LED lighting, and other NAVAIDs commonly found in an airport environment.

Successful candidate must have excellent writing and communications skills. The position requires the candidate to work independently with limited direction. Responsible for writing project plans, test plans, implementation plans and final reports. The candidate will be coordinating with airports, the FAA and industry consultants.

Daily responsibilities are to provide expertise in airfield lighting systems to support airport safety R&D projects, which will include:
- Develop project plans, testing plans and implementation plans
- Identify candidate airports as suitable test sites
- Conduct research and literature reviews
- Monitor project status and schedules
- Conduct testing and/or collect data
- Analyze data, develop conclusions and present findings in a technical report.

Required: Basic Qualifications Provide electrical engineering and airfield lighting expertise to the Airport Technology Research and Development Visual Guidance Sub-Team. The position requires the candidate to work independently with limited direction. Responsible for writing project plans, test plans, implementation plans and final reports. The candidate will be coordinating with airports, the FAA and industry consultants.

Must be able to:
- serve as a technical project lead for various projects involving airfield lights, signs, and markings.
- demonstrate experience with developing new electrical designs in airfield lighting to meet changing power requirements.
- analyze new or enhanced products or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine compliance with FAA regulations and requirements.
- compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or products.
- plan and develop experimental test procedures and analyze test data results.
- participate in the continuous improvement of airfield lighting systems; collaborate with other engineering personnel or communicate directly with the FAA and industry representatives when required.

It is desired, but not required that the successful candidate have experience in NAVAIDs, airfield lighting vaults, power service/distribution systems, and apron/heliport flood lighting design.
