Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to perform activities related to the development, formatting/design, and production of communications and technical materials for both internal and external audiences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities
Works independently or under writer's, editor's, or client's guidance to format and prepare complex reports, integrating text, sidebars, images, illustrations and graphic elements, tables, equations, and other material
Works with writers and editors to incorporate revisions and correct formatting as needed throughout the review cycle
Adheres to and applies ORNL publications standards and styles or external style guidelines (e.g., for journals, conferences) as appropriate for each task
Develops templates and forms for lab-wide use as well as for specific clients or jobs
Works with writers, editors, project managers, and clients to establish priorities and reasonable schedules to meet deadlines
Sets priorities and alters level of effort to meet customer's budget and schedule
Works with customers and graphic artists to obtain suitable, good-quality illustrations for published material
Electronically submits finished documents for reproduction or printing
Performs file management and archiving for Publishing Services group
Troubleshoots formatting problems for team members, customers, and lab staff
Performs quality checks to ensure compliance with lab, publication, or customer requirements, including final reviews of format and style before documents are published or posted
Responsible for the development, formatting/design, and production of communications and technical materials for both internal and external audiences, including, but not limited to, technical articles and reports, procedures, forms, presentations, fact sheets, science highlights, Web-distributed content, and Word-based newsletters
Works with Publishing Services, other Creative Media teams, and members of the customer's organization to provide the support needed and product required by each client
Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics

Qualifications Required
High school diploma is required with a minimum of five years of experience in document preparation, layout and revision, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Must be self-motivated, self directed, results-focused and committed to achieving goals. Excellent written, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and a high degree of computer literacy with proficiency in office automation software are required. Must have extensive experience with and expert knowledge of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat, and must be able to work in Excel (including importing from Excel into Word) and PowerPoint. The incumbent must understand the principles of typographic design and layout. Must possess an outstanding attention to detail, the ability to understand, follow, and implement complex instructions and the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously. Must possess the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; the ability to work independently with a client as well as with writers, editors, graphic artists, and all levels of researchers and staff in a team-based environment, and strong skills in solving problems and developing and implementing solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
Experience using LaTeX, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and FrameMaker is preferred, as is the ability to work on a Mac as well as a PC. Experience with social media tools is also a plus.
