Familiarity with tools and techniques necessary to isolate probable error sources is required. Requires familiarity with: Unix and Windows based workstations, various COTS packages including tools for product creation, modification and off-line analysis of image data. Understanding of collector calibration techniques (those necessary to maintain image quality) is desired. May require ability to help develop concept of operations for resolving analysis product quality issues, including a) the ability to train and direct other personnel in the investigation of such issues, and b) ability to propose solutions to such issues when possible.
General Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and validates requirements for unique communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components. Develops and validates electromagnetic requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures. Help develop architectures to integrate multiple systems into higher level systems and platforms. Participate in the development of trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design around complex requirements. Implements new and improved modeling and simulation techniques. Participates in the development and execution of critical tests to validate performance of designs to requirements. Works with and understands appropriate aspects of critical supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements. Provides support to products throughout their lifecycle by providing guidance and support to resolve complex issues. Supports project management by providing coordinating development of work statement, budget, and schedule and other required inputs and conducting appropriate reviews. Creates new tools to improve management of projects. Participates in the development of major sections of large-scale proposals to support development of new business. Works under consultative direction.
Competencies
General• Adaptability
Tries to understand changes in work-group tasks, situations, and the department as well as the logic or basis for change; occasionally seeks information about changes affecting their individual job. Treats changes and new situations as opportunities for learning or growth; focuses on the beneficial aspects of change; speaks positively about the change to fellow work group members. Quickly modifies behavior to deal effectively with changes in the work environment; readily tries new approaches appropriate for new or changed situations; does not persist with ineffective behaviors.
• Collaboration
Makes an effort to work effectively and cooperatively with fellow work group members; establishes and maintains productive working relationships by involving other work group members as appropriate and thanking them for their assistance. Places higher priority on work group goals rather than on own goals; offers to help other employees when they need assistance.
• Communication
Makes an effort to clarify purpose and importance; stresses major points; follows a logical sequence. Tries to keep the audience engaged through use of techniques such as analogies, illustrations, humor, an appealing style, body language, and voice inflection. With guidance from others frames messages in line with audience experience, background, and expectations; tries to use terms, examples, and analogies that are meaningful to the audience. Occasionally seeks input from audience; checks understanding; tries to present message in different ways to enhance understanding. Uses syntax, pace, volume, diction, and mechanics appropriate to the media being used. Interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; at times requires guidance from others on how to respond.
• Customer Focus
Understands customers and their needs and considers such factors in the completion of day-to-day job tasks and responsibilities; supports more experienced employees as required to develop and sustain productive customer relationships; uses available information to understand customer related circumstances, problems, and needs; considers how day-to-day actions will affect customers; responds quickly to help more experienced employees meet customer needs and resolve problems.
• Systems Thinking
Gains understanding of job tasks and processes and how they contribute to meeting work group objective(s). Identifies non-value-adding tasks and alerts more experienced employees for possible improvements. Participates in changes to job/role structures and processes as directed by supervisor.
