Position Description:

Position Summary:

Software Engineer will assist development partners in the integration of real time embedded software for Sirius XM based products. Main responsibilities will include working directly with Sirius XM automotive and aftermarket development partners in software integration, system software troubleshooting, developing software to handle data services, and working with various operating systems. This individual will be a key member of the software team and will be responsible for being the first level interface for technical support and consultation. Software design, documentation, and implementation will also be a part of this position. The candidate must also be capable of working with various Configuration Management Systems. The successful candidate will work with the software team to help define and create “best in class” software to be used by automotive and aftermarket software developers in Sirius XM Satellite Radio products.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with Sirius automotive and aftermarket receiver manufacturer partners to troubleshoot and resolve user interface software issues during their product development process.
* Provide consulting services to developers porting Sirius XM software to various operating systems and hardware platforms.
* Design, document, and implement software that will be used in Sirius XM products.
* Work with team members to insure components delivered meet functional and quality requirements.
* Participate and provide relevant feedback in software design and review sessions with the team.
* Provide appropriate documentation of software and technical documentation.
* Support the full software development lifecycle experience from initial feature definition through software release and in-field customer support.
* Provide regular and accurate reports to the Director of Software Applications Development and perform special projects, lab/field testing, and other duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Expert level of experience in supporting external software development partners in the integration/troubleshooting of third party software into custom hardware/software architectures.
* Expert level of experience with advanced software development environments ( IDE, compilers, operating systems, source management tools, test tools ).
* Expert level of experience with a wide variety of operating systems(Linux, QNX, uCOS-II )
* Expert level understanding of C/C++, object oriented methodologies, and system software design concepts. Java experience is desired, but not required.
* Results oriented, product focused individual with high energy and passion towards developing new Sirius XM based products.
Education:
* B.S. in Software Engineering, B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
* M.S. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is desired.

Years of relevant experience:
* 10-15 years experience in embedded, real-time software design and implementation preferably with experience in the areas of:
* Automotive sound manufacturers (radio head units, CD Players, Telematics systems, navigation systems, etc.)
* Mobile telephone systems
* Satellite receivers / Navigation Systems
* Automotive engine controllers
* Blue Tooth and / or WIFI products

Technical Skills:
* Perform analysis of partner software architectures and provide timely recommendations on problem resolution.
* Perform analysis of product specifications and specify recommended software architectures and programming techniques for implementing efficient and effective Sirius products.
* Write effective software application notes, programming manuals, and training materials for distribution and presentation to Sirius partners.
* The successful candidate will have an understanding of the consumer electronics and automotive electronics product development process – product planning, prototyping, specifications, testing, quality, documentation, etc. Effective past and current relationships with counterparts among consumer electronics and automotive manufacturers would be a major plus.
* Experience in participating in formal documentation and source code reviews. The candidate must be capable of providing relevant and insightful feedback to team members.
* Expertise is required in the areas below:
* Software design using RISC based microcontrollers, DSPs, and/or ARM microcontrollers
* Familiarity with the use of configuration management tools such as MS-VSS
* Experience with RTOS based design ( uCOS-II, QNX, Linux, and MS Windows )
* Experience in multi-processor software applications.
* Experience in developing system boot software.
* Experience in the design and implementation of Device Drivers and BSP’s.
* Experience in setting up Configuration Management packages such as MS-VSS and GIT.
* A high-level of personal computer proficiency is required, including experience and familiarity with project planning, Microsoft Office, and engineering software.
