Position Requirements
The Pacific Theater Network Operations and Security Center is looking for a Senior VMware administrator to operate & maintain the USARPAC VMware virtual environment. This VMware implementation supports over fifty ESX servers and hundreds of virtual machines geographically disbursed throughout the Pacific Theater at sites including Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, and Okinawa.


Job Description:

1. Assist in validating system resource requirements of new servers to be deployed as virtual machines.
2. Participate in physical to virtual migrations to include the planning, analysis, coordination, execution, and troubleshooting throughout the lifecycle of migration efforts.
3. Plan, develop, and coordinate the operation and maintenance of current and future ESX servers and virtual machines in accordance with established processes.
4. Troubleshoot application errors, operating system(s), server hardware, network communications and storage allocation issues within the VMware environment.
5. Utilize diagnostic tools to trace and resolve technical problems.
6. Analyze software and hardware constraints to plan for new user requirements (capacity planning).
7. Monitor the health and performance of the VMware infrastructure and virtual machines.
8. Utilize Remedy ITSM to track and resolve problems impacting continued system operations and make recommendations for any corrective actions required.
9. Plan, coordinate, and document the use of revised/updated procedures, processes, and methods for the operations and maintenance of the VMware infrastructure.
10. Provide "on-call" support after business hours and during weekends
11. Perform daily SAN Status checks for all NIPR and SIPR storage arrays using Navisphere and/or Command Central Storage.
12. Manage and maintain all enterprise NAS clusters and TNOSC servers to ensure operational capability and security. Maintain IAVA, DISA STIG compliance by scanning and patching all servers on monthly basis.
13. Open support requests with third party vendors for hardware/software issues. Facilitate communications between vendor support and on site engineers. Work with onsite engineers at remote locations to troubleshoot and resolve all issues.
14. Provide high level support to remote site administrators in Japan and Okinawa. Provide Tier 2 support to regional system administrators and Information Management Officers.
15. Manage and support VMware environment (version 4.x)
16. Provide support to Service Desk technicians.
17. Manage and maintain all enterprise backup and recovery using Commvault and NetBackup. Report backup status for all enterprise servers and tape backup libraries.

Qualifications
BS/BA or 2 years equivalent experience
2+ years VMware Administration
CISSP Required
Microsoft Certifications preferred
Must have final secret clearance

Successful performance of duties requires advanced knowledge on Windows 2003 and 2008 Active Directory, 2007 Exchange Systems, NAS, SAN and Automated Backup Systems. Basic knowledge on networking is required. Position requires ability to identify, diagnose and isolate reported or detected problems to a specific IT support team, such as AD, Exchange, SAN/NAS, etc.

Ability to provide support across the organization as needed, contribution to program is not limited to specific position. Ability to quickly understand the enterprise architecture supported across Hawaii, Japan and Alaska.
