Overview
 
The Technologist role is a pivotal pre-sales role within the EMEA Enterprise Solutions Group. Technologists are responsible for the strategic support of propositions based on any combination of Dell product, services and solutions capabilities. Each Technologist specialises in one or more specific subject areas. Deep technical experience and an in depth understanding of the market activity across EMEA enables Technologists to operate as a Trusted Advisor at CIO level expressing Dell's Point of View and helping drive opportunity from initial identification through to bid closure.
  
Key Responsibilities
 
·         Ensure the customer gains significant business advantage by deploying key technology solutions with Dell Products, Solutions & Services.
·         Assist Dell BU solutions staff to fulfil customer requirements in key opportunities and provide advice and guidance in building responses.
·         Identify EMEA business growth programs based around the key technology solutions and ensure these are sustained.
·         Liaise closely with partners to deliver clear/consistent strategy and messaging.
·         Identify, develop and maintain communication channels with peers and key technology area subject matter experts to ensure industry wide expertise is maintained.
·         Develop and maintain an in depth knowledge of best practice in the key technology area and the solutions they are integrated into.
·         Develop and maintain an in depth knowledge of competitive offerings, strengths and weaknesses of other non Dell offerings.
·         When required, take technical project lead/high level technical architect role for EMEA HQ on large/complex enterprise opportunities to assist BU in winning/turning round key enterprise opportunities.
·         Provide specialist/ad hoc training to BU Solutions staff to supplement standard Solutions training.
·         Coordinating awareness of new technology, Enterprise and industry issues between customer and Dell product group.
·         Identify areas for improvement in the key technology area engagements and apply BPI/6-Sigma techniques and tools to achieve this improvement and influence longer term strategy as appropriate.
·         To identify best practice and regularly provide feedback to EMEA Solutions line management, Enterprise Services world-wide and Dell product groups, presenting at internal meetings and events.
·         Developing and delivering presentations on IT Strategy and Architecture, business cases and benefits of Dell solutions for the customer's specific business needs.
·         Maintaining a broad knowledge of industry sector, industry standard frameworks and architectures as well as technical expertise in appropriate areas such as Data Centre design, deployment, migration etc; network infrastructure, security, application hosting, Internet/Intranet etc.
·         Develop skills and knowledge outside of the key technology area to include all appropriate Dell product and service offerings and solutions.

Performance Objectives

1.             Engage on the top opportunities/transactions against their specialist area (60%)

Each Technologist is expected to balance time between transactional in-quarter bid work and more investment orientated time to develop larger opportunities. Part of this requirement is satisfied by access to business management dashboards and reports but market knowledge through Dell businesses, Partners, Systems Integrators, Channels and Software providers should also guide activity against each specialist Enterprise Technologist area.

2.             Drive successful Dell and Partner relationships (20%)

The role of the Technologist is often the "glue" between various stakeholder in Dell and externally. Technologists are measured on defined and planned stakeholder relationships with a minimum of a quarterly plan of activity. Typical stakeholders include Product Group, GICS, Marketing, PR and Analyst relations and the Dell partner community.

3.             Identify and own Dell Growth initiatives (20%)

Each Technologist is expected to be able to define areas of potential growth for Dell. These may be pure technology opportunity areas or more likely a mix of market analysis, technology application and execution of a plan. Once supported the Technologist is likely to own or be instrumental in driving one or more growth initiatives.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

 

1)         Essential Experience

·         Significant work experience in industry area, consultancy, development and/or support of Dell Enterprise (or similar) related products or services, preferably in large scale/complex Data Centre environments.

·         Experience in identifying and delivering technical solutions to customer business problems.

·         Ability to communicate with the appropriate audiences at all levels of an organization in both a business and technical context.

·         Ability to manage virtual teams and motivate people as part of the Enterprise Technology team.

 

2)         Qualifications

·         A good degree level qualification in a technical subject, or equivalent industry experience.
