Title: Help Desk/LAN Technician (TS/SCI) Location: DC-Washington POSITION SUMMARY: User Support and Help Desk service, Veritas infrastructure support, System and access management, System upgrades, 24x7x365 availability and performance of TFIN and TSDN CORE (i.e., domain, file/print, exchange, e-mail) systems, 24x7x365 availability and performance of [warm/cold] COOP systems (i.e., domain, file/print, e-mail, network) systems, 24x7x365 availability and performance of M3, 24x7x365 availability and performance of ASSET, 24x7x365 availability and performance of external websites, Continual and uninterrupted Community Messaging Flow, Trouble Tickets are resolved promptly, repeat incidents are minimized, and customer service is well regarded. RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers network workstations, utilizing one or more networking protocols and/or one or more UNIX-based or non-UNIX based operating systems. Evaluates and/or recommend purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software; Investigates user problems, identifies their source, determines possible solutions, tests and implements solutions. Performs and/or oversees software and application development, installation, and upgrades. Troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties. Develops and conducts various training and instruction for system users on operating systems, relational databases, and other applications; assist users in maximizing use of networks and computing systems. Manages third-party maintenance for network equipment and troubleshoots problems with department users and department LAN Administrators. Develops uniform operating procedures for administering LANs or minicomputers. Identifies utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance expectations. Anticipates communication and networking problems and implement preventive measures. Establishes and performs maintenance programs following company and vendor standards. Ensures timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability. Investigates, recommends and installs enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability. Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network. Serves as primary contact for other technical teams (WAN, UNIX, WMS, etc.) in on-site tasks when local resources are not present. Documents network problems and resolutions for future reference. May be required to provide hardware and software recommendations to achieve required project deliverables Provides team leadership to less experienced LAN Administrators. Works with other network professionals as directed or as needed to coordinate efforts, resolve cross-team issues and communicate changes. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Typically requires bachelor's degree (in Computer Science or related field) or equivalent, and seven to nine years of related experience.
