Infrastructure Support/Data Administrator

Contract Term

This is a 6 month contract opportunity.

Overview
Our client is seeking an Infrastructure Support/Data Administrator.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers
  • Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones
  • Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
  • Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvement
  • Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases
  • Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels

Qualifications

    Required Skills:
  • College diploma or university degree in information systems
  • Oracle Data Base Administrator
  • Microsoft Sequel Server Administrator
  • ITIL Certification
  • Five years direct experience with database administration including design, installing, configuring, and supporting
  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures
  • Five years minimum experience working with information technology in an oil and gas domain
  • Proficiency with MS SQL Server
  • Proficiency with Oracle
  • Working knowledge of MS Windows Server
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix
  • Experience with database administration supporting SAP on Oracle
  • Proficiency with Unix Shell Scripting
  • Proficiency with MS SQL Server T-SQL
  • Proficiency with Oracle/PL/SQL
  • Expertise in hardening Oracle/SQL Server using industry standard methods such as those created by the Center for Internet Security

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
  • Ability to interact with personnel at all levels and across all business units and organizations, and to understand business imperatives
  • Broad based knowledge of IT concepts
  • Good analytical & problem solving skills
  • Excellent written communication skills

Required Experience

    Database Design and Structures
  • Experience with implementation and support of multiple types of database structures
  • Can discuss the basic tenets and design features of major types of database groups
  • Understands migration considerations to and from other platforms and structures
  • Experienced in data manipulation, normalization, integrity and validity across structures
  • Experienced with design and operational considerations of distributed databases

Availability and Capacity Management

  • Has knowledge of tools and techniques for planning changes to system or network capacity
  • Links change metrics to measurements for availability and capacity management
  • Has worked with development staff to plan resource requirements for systems under development
  • Raises awareness and brings visibility to costs associated with incremental capacity requirements
  • Has provided a variety of management reporting on actual and projected capacity requirements associated to changes

Application Support

  • Has defined practices for managing and implementing change to the production environment
  • Has consulted on application integration and migration
  • Monitors key performance and availability factors
  • Has identified opportunities for reverse engineering to realize significant productivity gains
  • Has defined strategies and practices for enhancing, maintaining and retiring application systems
  • Has promoted use of reverse engineering tools to diagram Legacy systems
