The Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS); Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) inMadison. Job Duties:
Under general supervision of the Deputy Director, the Director of Social Services is responsible for development, implementation and maintenance of an effective Institute-wide Social Services program according to standards established by NASW, CMS, TJC and relevant laws such as Chapter 51; for participating in the overall management of the Institute; for planning, developing and implementing the Patients Rights Program and functioning as the supervisor of the Client Rights Facilitators; for coordination of a graduate Social Work field placement program; for supervising the Institute Pastoral Care program developing and implementing the MMHI Utilization Review Program, for serving in a public relations capacity by participating in professional organizations and meetings, speaking engagements and in community mental health activities; and for participation/consultation in confidential matters pertaining to labor relations and affirmative action.
Special Notes: Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Social Work theory and practice for inpatient psychiatric hospitals, including peer review and quality improvement; TJC, CMS and Division of Quality Assurance standards of practice for inpatient and outpatient hospital programs; state laws concerning treatment of adult, child-adolescent, geriatric and forensic mentally ill; state laws, administrative rules and standards relevant to patients? rights and grievance procedures; treatment techniques and resources for treating the mentally ill; principles and practices of effective communication techniques; personnel rules and procedures for hiring of professional clinical staff including interviewing, screening, selection; supervision techniques and procedures; considerable knowledge of mental health evaluation, care and treatment; ability to analyze complex technical issues, to identify the relation of parts to the whole and help others work toward effective resolution of those issues; ability to effectively prioritize and organize a complex set of tasks and completing goals to accomplish activities; and ability to understand and use application of computer techniques and capacities to enter, retrieve and analyze data.
