Our group is the fastest growing interactive agency serving the nonprofit world. Our clients are highly visible and well-known organizations that partner with Blackbaud to provide solutions for their online needs.

Reporting to the Practice Manager of Professional Services, the Design Services Manager will ensure that the Professional Services team has a depth of design talent, who are well trained and motivated to achieve success. The Design Services Manger’s ultimate responsibilities will be to manage staff, conduct Interactive Design specific operations, and enhance market & client development in our web design space. The candidate must be comfortable and have experience working on high performing teams comprised of the three key disciplines necessary for any interactive application: Visual Design; Information Design; and Technical Design.

Staff Management:
•Recruit, retain, and develop designers capable of delivering high quality services
•Mentor new and existing team members in design best practices
•Identify training and development needs of staff
•Motivate and inspire team members
•Ensure team members have the resources to be successful
•Measure and improve employee performance
•Manage human resource issues of team members
•As required, define and correct performance issues
•Work with other Managers to fill capability gaps and skill mix issues among consultants
•Promote adherence to Blackbaud's implementation methodology
•Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction

Design Operations:
•Manage team utilization to exceed team revenue targets
•Manage team’s project backlog and staffing
•Perform billable assignments in a consultative or executive sponsor role
•Travel to client sites as necessary
•Ensure team members follow appropriate time reporting, expense reporting, forecasting, backlog, and project closure policies and procedures
•Enhance and enforce knowledge management procedures
•Work with the PMO and Training and Development Lead to identify and plan training opportunities for team members
•Enhance and enforce standards and processes to ensure engagements exceed client expectations
•Define and implement process improvements

Thought Leadership, Market & Client Development:
•Provide leadership and direction across all interactive destinations; guiding breakthrough thinking with respect to interactive customer experience.
•Work closely with the sales support team to develop new design offerings
•Gain a comprehensive understanding of the market specific needs as they relate to web design
•Understand and develop strategies against the competitive landscape
•Recognize and respond to market trends in design services and the internet space
•Contribute to the Knowledge Management initiative
•Perform presales assignments and then serve as the point of project escalation and leadership
•Drive division’s efforts in new products and services initiatives
Required Experience:


•Bachelor’s degree required
•The willingness to live and work in Charleston, SC
•Balanced understanding of design, strategy, usability, interaction and visual concepts across web, mobile, and social platforms
•Knowledge of enablers and constraints of technologies for interactive development (Web, Mobile, Social)
•Full understanding of technical design methodologies, best practices and common application architectures
•2-4 years experience managing or mentoring employees
•4-6 years of working directly with clients or end users
•3-5 years of experience working in an agency or professional services setting, with demonstrated experience in project leadership and design processes
•1-2 years experience managing design projects
•Understanding of internet and web design business drivers
•Strong problem-solving skills
•Excellent soft skills
•Experience with hiring and retention
•Experience using software tools on either Mac or Windows platforms including Visio, Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint to create technical deliverables, as well as the ability to quickly learn how to use new tools and methods.
•Proficiency with leading design software, e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc.
•Indicates a clear understanding of HTML and CSS to translate design concepts to code
•Knowledge of Blackbaud's internet solutions and implementations a plus
