Position Description
SUMMARY: The Control Systems Technician will support Medtronic's maintenance efforts by being responsible for the selection, installation, programming, and documentation of all plant control systems within the facility. Ensure the safety of themselves and other employees in a 24 by 7 day operation.
Become process owner of the site's CMMS system, leverage from other Facility organization's a Best Practice for the implementation of a work order system. Develop standards on recording equipment data and work order entry. Work with engineer on the development of Preventive Maintenance activities, scheduling and CM route tasks. Utilize the CMMS system to manage work order history and repair cost. Identify opportunities to improve process, planning or performance through analysis of work order history and fault code trends. Provide maintenance management with timely and accurate information that will assist in planning, organizing and budgeting for organizational needs.
Incumbent will also follow up with outside controls contractors and Systems Integrators to insure they turn over fully documented PLC programs of the systems they have worked on and that they provide training for all Maintenance and Operations personnel involved in the area of concern and serve as the plant liaison for new system start up and commissioning by all outside controls contractors.
Some of the challenges in this position include reducing downtime with the updating of PLC logic and developing diagnostic tools with the data available through the controls; understanding the systems and keeping abreast of new technology to recommend upgrades that will reduce or eliminate problems; monitor and recommend adequate controls spare parts inventory; and keeping control documentation up to date.
Position Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Understand and comply with Metronic's safety policies and procedures including but not limited to lockout/tagout procedures, Hot work permits, arc flash safety, and hazardous communication standards. Take ownership and responsibility to promptly respond to problem calls, quickly diagnosing the failure and making required repairs. Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence. Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself. Learn to use the CMMS to enter and retrieve activity log information and reports Must be available for on-call assignments as necessary for callouts and emergencies after regular business hours, weekends and holidays. Assist with the preparation of specifications for control system design and software development. Work with OEM suppliers of equipment to facilitate company conformity to safety and Medtronic controls guidelines. Sets up, configures, and supports internal and/or external control system networks dealing with site automation. Develops and maintains all facility systems, applications, security, telephone, and network configurations. In-depth understanding of analog, digital, conventional and trunked radio systems required. Must have capabilities with installation, maintenance, and repair of base systems, repeaters, remote controls, multiplexers, antenna systems, and battery backup systems. Ensure that antivirus definitions and patches are up-to-date on all control system computers. Troubleshoots control system performance issues and creates and maintains a disaster recovery plan. Proven ability to support multiple activities is a must. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers
Basic Qualifications
Education: Bachelors Degree Experience: 2+Years Experience in Information Technology around Facilities Controls and Warehouse Automation. Computer and Programming Skills: proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, PLC platforms: Allen Bradley, Omron, Phoenix, HMI and operator interface platforms, and PC and database integration with controls systems of various platforms. Familiarity with SAP is desirable. Ability to interpret control systems to facilitate troubleshooting of material handling equipment, including electrical, mechanical and pneumatic problems. Computer literacy to navigate through and understand HMI and PLC logic programs. Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory Domains. Exchange Server 2000/2003. Windows XP, Windows 2000. Knowledge about: TCP/IP, Routing, LDAP, Security- Authentication, SSL, IPSec, VPN, Firewall concepts.

Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices Knowledge and experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams Strong working knowledge of trade specific codes, policies, and best practices for a variety of disciplines including electrical, HVAC, fire protection, and IT is required. Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed. Oversee the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties. Prioritize and plan all work in compliance with Medtronic standards, procedures, and quality requirements.
