Position Summary:
The IT Director is responsible for the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of Nelnet?s software, servers, related hardware, and associated infrastructure budgets. Additionally, this role is responsible for providing IT strategy, planning, and support for the company, as well as leadership and direction to the IT team. Ability to provide team direct guidance as needed on a tactical level a must.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Manage IT budget in excess of $5M - Lead teams of Network Engineers, Infrastructure/Desktop Support Specialists, System Administrators and DBAs - Provide strategic IT direction for the company - Manage multiple web servers running IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 Servers with .NET Framework 3.5 - MS SQL 2005 and Oracle Database - Web server load balancing (experience with F51 preferred) - Web server and database firewall protection - Web site content synchronization across multiple servers - SQL server migration - High Availability Cluster (Failover Cluster) and Storage Area Network (SAN) configuration - Nagios installation and migration - Establish and manage Disaster Recovery procedures and back up sites
Lead Team Which Facilitates:
- Desktop support (PC issues, VPN setup) - Access permissions (access to servers etc) - Setting up new users (new FTEs and contractors) - Support of file promotions - Setting up and monitoring alerts for server performance and uptime - Setup of new servers - Installation of new software on servers - Configuration changes and updates to supporting application software including SQL Server, Apache, JBoss and HMail - Reconfiguration of production servers - Software maintenance on servers including purchase and maintenance of licenses - Maintaining, troubleshooting network infrastructure (connectivity, bandwidth issues, etc) - Apply LeadIQ patches and upgrades - Coordinate hosting-related items such as firewall changes, hardware failures and additional IP addresses - Regular analysis of query history on the production databases to look for long running queries and bad query plans - Maintenance of Nagois monitoring system - Regular scrutiny of system error logs - Test database fail-over - Purge of old staging data - Create staging partitions if required - Test DNS fail-over to DR site - Monthly upload of NPA-NXX (areas code) records - Regular monitoring of page response times - Test appropriate alerts periodically
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 7+ years experience as an IT Manager with progressive management responsibility - BA or BS in Computer/Information Science, Management Information Systems from four year college or university or other four year degree with equivalent work experience - Direct experience leading teams of Network Engineers, Infrastructure/Desktop Support Specialists, System Administrators and/or DBAs - Experience with IT department administration, budget development and accountability - Working experience with applicable technology to provide team with specific and direct guidance, as needed - Experience in architecting and managing high availability consumer and customer facing websites that are fault-tolerant - Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) experience - Proven track record of providing forward-looking solutions

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and will use hands and fingers to write, operate a computer keyboard and/or a calculator.
