IT Support Specialists - QualitrolTitle: IT Support Specialists - Qualitrol Location: North America-United States-New York-Fairport Other Locations: BASIC FUNCTION: The IT Support Specialist performs work in the administration of PC, Server, and telecommunications systems at Qualitrol Corporation in Fairport, New York. This person will provide PC and telecommunications support to associates onsite and remote users affiliated with Qualitrol regardless of location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. User/Client Support: * Provide technical support for PC's, peripherals, hardware, software and operating systems to Qualitrol employees and its affiliates with the purpose of ensuring that customers needs are met and quality customer service is provided. Ensures compliance with Danaher IT standards. Applies tools and technology to fix problems, identify and solve root cause and maintain effective communication with customers during issue resolution. * Establish and maintain company-wide hardware and software standards for computers and related peripherals. Ensure standards compliance on all employee equipment. Maintain the systems and software image to support implementation and management of the standard. * Monitor the status of employee's hardware and software installations, maintenance, and upgrades and PC life cycle in order to ensure that Qualitrol employees have adequate equipment to meet Qualitrol applications and computing needs. Ensure maintenance contract and repair plans are in place and up to date for all covered equipment. Facilitate the repair and replacement of equipment as necessary or strategically required. * Manage the installation of licensed and third party software to ensure compliance with vendor requirements. Ensure upgrades and replacements of software are conducted in accordance the PC standards and configuration definitions. * Evaluate emerging technologies and user requirements to identify more productive tools and applications in order to meet user needs. Provide vendor comparisons and evaluations to choose the most cost effective technologies available to meet their needs. Suggest modifications to the standard as appropriate. * Provide remote employees with user friendly and effective tools for connectivity to Qualitrol services in conjunction with defined security requirements (including PSTN dial-up, DSL, cable, calling cards, wireless and other 3rd party access methods), monitors utilization and costs, and recommends and establishes telecom standards in order to balance the most effective tools and process for the user community with the least amount of cost or investment. * Tactically support strategies for the usage, integration, and implementation of wireless voice and data services including cell phones, 802.11x, Voice-over-IP, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, etc. technologies in order to provide employees with increasingly productive tools to communicate voice and data, while minimizing complexity and cost. * Assist in the maintenance of the physical plant infrastructures, including wiring and cabling for voice and data to central hub positions, punch-down panels, and switch/hub configuration and controls in order to ensure integrity and reliability of the telecomm infrastructure. Ensure wiring standards are maintained and upgraded as necessary. Implement physical wiring modifications for voice infrastructure. Ensure Qualitrol and Danaher standards are adhered to. 2. Server System Support * Set up and maintain user account information including security rights, directory structures, and system groups according to IT policy and guidelines. * Maintain Windows network servers, by installing new software releases, system upgrades and patches, and resolve software related problems. * Monitor and implement virus control throughout network servers and client systems. * Perform activities associated with protection and backup of data to ensure backup processes successfully complete on a regular basis. * Maintain acceptable level of security on all systems. 3. Network and Infrastructure Support * Coordinate installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of network hardware, cabling and phone lines for client and server systems and maintain network infrastructure integrity. * Implement and maintain networking systems equipment including switches, routers and print servers. * Perform upgrades to network hardware and software as required. 4. Administrative Tasks * Provide IT input and guidance to various areas of the business as it relates to business processes and functions. * Implement and communicate corporate policies relating to the use of all IT equipment, systems and procedures. Qualifications: * 2 or more year degree in computer or science or computer related field of study Or * An equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities * Certifications in systems, servers, network a plus.
Skills/Aptitude: * Ability to work with minimal supervision. * Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. * Ability to train and provide support to system users. * Ability to effectively utilize problem solving methodologies for all issues and projects. * Ability to assist users in solving systems problems. * Ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships with business units and other associates. * Ability to maintain records and write reports & create presentations. * Good organizational skills mandatory * Self Starter, team player a must. * Ability to prioritize based on business needs.
