Jr. Systems Administrator The ideal candidate for the position would be a Jack of All Trades in System Administration from Linux/Unix to Microsoft Windows. Duties include everything from account creation to troubleshooting VPN connection issues, to figuring out copier problems, phone issues, wireless issues, to keeping track of fixed assets are just a small amount of the various tasks that might be encountered on any given day.
Add new user accounts
Do onboarding of new employees
Setup laptops with necessary software foe new employees
Setup desktops with OS version requested by department head or new employee
Maintain log of loaner equipment
Maintain tape backup system
In order of importance the following are necessary skills:
Candidate needs to have a strong Linux/Unix background and excellent system administration skills. The candidate must know how to build various flavors of Linux such as RedHat, Ubuntu, Centos, etc.
There are more interesting tasks as well. This candidate will assist our researchers with everything from giving recommendations for hardware to building and helping with their experimental environments.
This Candidate should also have knowledge of Network Appliance systems, and various programs such as Sendmail, Apache, LDAP. Familiarity with NetVault backup software would be a plus. Candidate should be able to create basic web pages.
Administration of Microsoft Windows 2008 Server would be a big plus.
The Successful Candidate: - Will provide full helpdesk support as well as workstation support for Windows XP, Windows 7, Ubuntu, CentOS and RedHat Operating Systems, MS Office and other applications.
- Will provide support to VoIP telephones, printer/copier support, network patches and wiring, as well as facility support to move equipment and furniture.
- Will troubleshoot various computers including Dell and OEM server systems and server storages.
- Will provide limited server and network systems support.

- Strong service-oriented skills including excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a ""can-do"" attitude.
- Extremely strong work ethic, ability to work extended/weekend hours when needed.
- Detailed knowledge about MS Windows XP/7, Linux; high-level knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
- Experience handling and using computer hardware peripherals to perform system troubleshooting and upgrades.
- Experience with server/desktop/laptop deployment.
Preferred Skills: - In depth knowledge of TCP/IP in Windows/Linux.
- Samba experience.
- MCSE training or practices.
- Programming skills such as shell script and NT script.
