LAN/WAN Engineer – Information Services Department
The LAN/WAN Engineer analyzes, designs, tests, and evaluates local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems including but not limited to internet, intranet, and other data communications systems. The LAN/WAN Engineer maintains and administers computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations to ensure network availability to all system users. Maintain and troubleshoot PGWs CISCO Network Infrastructure. Deploy and configure switches, routers, and other network components. Research, evaluate and recommend new technologies for their use at PGW. Integrate multiple components to support the enterprise?s business objectives. Design, Implement and troubleshoot PGWs LAN/WAN infrastructure. Oversee the work of lower rated Network Engineers. Train and Coach lower rated Network Engineers. Provide third level support to assist the Desktop Support Group. Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components. Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations. Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records. Maintain needed files by adding and deleting files on the network server and backing up files to guarantee their safety in the event of problems with the network. Set up user accounts, regulating and monitoring file access to ensure confidentiality and proper use. Maintain the peripherals, such as printers, that are connected to the network. Provide first level resolution of hardware/software platform problems in complex, multi-layered environment, tracks and monitors reported problems to ensure a timely resolution; follows-up with user to ensure issue has been sufficiently resolved. Keep abreast of current knowledge of LAN/WAN software, associated management software and architectures. Perform other special projects and assignments as requested.
Requirements:
Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Services, or other related field of study required.
1 to 3 years hands on experience in network technologies and protocols such as VPN, Frame Relay, Wireless, and CISCO hardware (Routers, Switches, Firewalls).
300 hours of job relevant curriculum.
Excellent knowledge of network monitoring, health reporting as well as packet analysis.
Excellent knowledge of business process reengineering concepts with the ability to solve practical problems, deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists and lead requirements definition activities.
Excellent understanding of customer satisfaction basics with the ability to apply concepts in the process of servicing the customer.
Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of Novell, Microsoft or Cisco (Certification in one of these applications is highly desired).
