Summary:
The need is for an experienced Lead Database Analyst with a proven track record, and the character and credentials to meet the challenges of a diverse development project work load. This is a Development Lead DBA role with a focus on Data Modeling, Database Design and Delivery. Database skills in SQL Server and / or mainframe DB2 are ideal, with data modeling skills using a supporting tool.
The main responsibilities of this role include: Provide database administration services to projects creating, extending or maintaining OLTP databases, data warehouses and data marts. Lead varied database projects, monitoring work of resources, tracking completion and resolving issues. Ability to lead numerous projects of various sizes and challenges to manage portfolios of databases and ensure sound delivery. Reach-out and present to senior levels and piers regarding database initiatives using consultancy-like skills. Evaluation of the longer-term needs of database platforms, documentation and presentation of database strategies, with ability to initiate and drive forward resulting projects. Provide a focus on physical data modeling, transform and map logical data architectures into physical data designs, with appropriate metadata using ER Studio. Seek and deliver cost savings and efficiencies through optimization of databases, including performance tuning and space utilization. Use and scheduling of database tools and utilities, and alignment on application designs, to ensure the database environment meets business requirements and SLAs. Comply and promote database development related best practices, polices, procedures and associated processes. This is not a production support role the main emphasis is on development and design.
Required Qualifications:
?Strongly prefer Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, or applicable Engineering discipline (e.g. Electrical Engineering) Must have previous experience coordinating corss functional DBA resources Prefer industry certification in database administration Experience as a database administrator developing and supporting large OLTP and/or OLAP enterprise systems Proven enterprise database administration experience in IMS, SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 UDB, or DB2 Demonstrated experience with project life cycle methodologies, DBA roles within this and other development project roles e.g. Business Analyst & DA within the methodology Proficient in design and development of relational (& optionally hierarchical) databases, including ability to design for performance, scalability, availability, flexibility & extensibility, meeting security requirements. Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills. Working knowledge of database engineering activities, including installation and configuration of DBMS software. Proficient in High Availability concepts including database recovery procedures, HA design and effective disaster recovery planning. procedures, HA design and effective disaster recovery planning. Strong problem solving, analytical and diagnostic skills. Knowledge of best practices for efficient database access. Knowledge of American Express technology best practices, processes and standards. Excellent written and verbal skills.
