Position Description
GENERAL FUNCTION: This is a Lead SQL Server DBA position, responsible for supporting the organization's SQL Server databases and ensuring their performance, availability, and security. The Lead is viewed as an expert in the administration and support of database technology. The candidate is expected to communicate common goals and direction for the team and also provide superior technical leadership.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: . Install and configure SQL Server 2005 and 2008 instances in both dedicated and consolidated environments . Apply regular security fixes and service packs in a timely manner; Proactively research potential issues that may be encountered as a result of infrastructure upgrades and share that information with the affected groups . Use SQL Server, Windows, and 3rd party tools to troubleshoot and resolve production issues . Lead, mentor and/or provide guidance to less experienced database analysts where applicable including guidance for troubleshooting escalated issues . Partner with offshore DBA resources and thoroughly document processes to ensure successful implementation by offshore staff and Production Control . Provide trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management . 24/7 Incident Response to database alerts from production monitoring tools and Command Center personnel . Analyze Key Performance Metrics using Profiler, PerfMon, SQLdiag, and SQL Server reporting tools . Optimize SQL Server resource utilization by tuning queries, recommending indexes, and configuring database instance settings . Provide input on the selection and implementation of all database administration tools . Maintain the integrity of data within the production environment including the execution of proper backup and restoration policies and procedures which provide point-in-time restore capabilities . Enhance site monitoring to improve availability and performance . Perform database capacity planning and trend analysis . Deploy database changes in strict accordance with change management policies and procedures . Interact and coordinate work with System Administrators, Project Managers and fellow team members to support various project requests
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: . None Position Requirements
MINIMUM KINOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUUIRED: . Bachelor's degree in CS/MIS or equivalent experience . Minimum of 5 years of heavy SQL Server database administration experience and production support . Prefer MCDBA certification . Experience installing SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 . Experience working with large systems running multiple SQL instances . Experience with evaluating and consolidating database workloads to maximize hardware resources
