POSITION OVERVIEW: You will manage one or more team(s) of software engineers in the design and implementation of one or more subsystems within our back-office applications. You will need to effectively collaborate with senior business leaders, business analysts, project managers, systems administrators, engineers and other development managers to transform business requirements to technical solutions with actionable schedules.
You must mentor and influence other engineers and work closely with architects, managers and lead engineers to solve complex problems. You will need to understand business, compliance and technical drivers and move comfortably between solving customer problems and complying with industry regulations.
You will be involved in business analysis and systems architecture, including the selection and implementation of technologies and supporting staff, while mentoring software engineers through design and development of next generation systems. You will assess performance of engineers and assist with career growth and development, continuously improving the performance and capabilities of your team while helping them achieve career and/or personal aspirations. Your Talents: Primary Requirements: . MS in Computer Science or equivalent work-related experience . BS or MS in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent work experience . 5+ year's experience managing 5 to 10 software engineers, responsible for technical and professional mentorship and performance appraisals . 4+ year's hands-on experience developing large Java/JEE based OLTP applications . Extensive project management experience, MS Project (EPS) preferred . Strong understanding of capacity, performance, HR and system security issues. . Experience with Object Orientated design, knowledge of Java/JEE design patterns . Experience with service-orientated architectures, relational database object persistence, middleware, and enterprise specifications for common business objects. . Expert knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices . Ability to comfortably work in a leadership capacity, able to influence and mentor others . Ability to coach employees and take an active role in career growth and development, including goal setting and continuous feedback, providing tools/training/support and periodic performance, position and compensation appraisals . Ability to use seasoned judgment to devise approaches that optimize among customer needs, business constraints, industry regulations and technological realities . Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation. . Able to create an environment conducive to team collaboration, enjoy working in a team environment . Ability to interact with customers to understand critical business needs and ensure successful delivery to meet the customer demands.
Desirable Skills and Experiences Include the Following: . Experience with MS Project, esp. Enterprise Project Server (EPS) . Experience with defect and/or release tracking systems, esp. JIRA . Experience with UI development: JSF, AJAX, Rich Faces, SEAM and/or CSS . Server experience with JBoss Application Server (clustered), at a minimum Tomcat . Experience with workflow and business rules engines . Experience with ORM technologies, specifically Hibernate. . Experience with Relational Database Management Systems, preferable Oracle. . Experience with Maven and/or continuous builds (Continuum). . Experience in financial services industry, or similar, with focus on payment processing.
