The Department

Information Systems and Technology (IST) - Our IST group supports the entire client and server side infrastructure for our design, launch, test and production groups. We deploy and maintain some of the most advanced systems in the industry within a mid-sized enterprise environment. Areas of focus include Systems Engineering, Network Engineering, Information Security, and Systems Administration. You will not find another company in Southern California that invests as heavily in their IT infrastructure.

The Job

SpaceX is looking for an experienced IT manager with deep knowledge and experience in critical IT infrastructure. Candidates should have experience managing high density server farms, HPC cluster environments, fast networks, blade systems, NAS and SAN storage solutions, data center design and management (HVAC and power) with green power & cooling requirements. System design & engineering in common Windows, Mac, and UNIX/Linux tools and applications is also necessary for integrating enterprise services. This person will manage a world class team of IT engineers, focused on the design, development and management of IT infrastructure that delivers a “Like Air” experience for the SpaceX team. The ideal candidate will also be flexible and flourish in a fast paced and challenging environment. He or she should be a self-starter and have excellent motivation, leadership, and ingenuity to excel at this position. This is a “hands on” management position; the ideal candidate will be able to coach, motivate and lead the team, while also being capable of assisting with the design and execution of any/all programs.

Responsibilities:

* Design, implement, and maintain server solutions, network services (DNS, Active Directory, IIS/Apache ), and core infrastructure services (messaging, collaboration, sharepoint services, database services) for the SpaceX enterprise, providing simple but effective scalability, performance, and reliability.
* Develop and maintain a world class HPC cluster that meets the needs of the demanding SpaceX engineering team.
* Software license negotiation and management for HPC tools, engineering tools, and enterprise infrastructure.
* Design, implement and maintain data center services at the corporate HQ data center, such as HVAC technologies, power design, and racking solutions.
* Develop and operate enterprise storage systems on high performance and scalable mediums such as NAS, SAN, optical, and tape. Strategy, infrastructure, implementation and reporting of corporate data backup, recovery and disaster recovery services.
* Supervise and/or perform installation and configuration of servers, network equipment, telephony devices, and other IT datacenter systems
* Schedule and provide after-hours or weekend support when necessary to perform high-risk or planned downtime of SpaceX datacenter systems for upgrades and maintenance
* Support SpaceX with the regular maintenance of monitoring, backup, and infrastructure power and cooling systems
* Interact with internal business units to provide solutions and resolve problems in a timely and proactive manner.Qualifications & Requirements:

* Experience in server hardware, management software, storage technologies, and enterprise networking
* Experience with storage protocols and technologies, including iSCSI, Fibre Channel, Netapp Filers, and ZFS
* Ability to write instructional documentation and convey highly technical ideas in terms regular (non-geeks) can understand
* A Motivated self-starting personality, able to work independently while maintaining patience with constant interruptions and multiple requests
* Must be physically fit enough to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. for duties such as UPS battery replacement, unpacking and rack-mounting equipment, or moving large equipment racks
* Must be comfortable working with mission critical and sensitive systems, with a sense of urgency appropriate to the responsibilitiesEducation and Training:
