Manager, Systems Architecture
"The WebMD Systems Operations department is looking for a technical manager to lead its Platform Operations team of 7 senior engineers. Day to day responsibilities of the team include build and release process of OS platform images in a heterogeneous Windows/Linux environment, management of the SAN infrastructure, design, integration, and management of workflow tools, and project support to other teams in the Technology organization. The position requires a blend of systems administration and programmatic experience, solid interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to execute on team vision under minimal guidance. The manager is expected to oversee daily operations of the team, manage change control processes, and handle crisis management with other members of Operations management. Ability to provide minimal project management and coordinate activities of team members with those of other departments is considered key. Odd hours and travel to various locations outside the office may be required.
Basic Requirements:
* 7+ years Windows/Linux systems administration experience * 2+ years experience managing a team of 5-10 administrators * 2+ years experience managing a server farm of 200+ servers * Understanding of TCP/IP networking/distributed computing concepts * Understanding of OS commands/utilities (file systems, job control, etc). * Understanding of LDAP/Active Directory technologies * Understanding of HA and BCP concepts (RAID, SPOFs, etc). * Working knowledge of HA strategies (RAID, clustering, etc). * Working knowledge of server virtualization concepts and impacts * Working knowledge of various systems security tools (Antivirus, system-based firewalls) * Familiarity with Kickstart, WinPE provisioning environments * Familiarity with software packaging formats (RPM, MSI) * Familiarity with SOAP/XML based web services * Demonstrated ability to automate processes using native OS scripting environments (Unix shell, PowerShell) and interpretive languages (Perl/Python) * Demonstrated ability in performance tuning and capacity planning * Demonstrated ability to perform research and author proposals * Demonstrated ability to implement new systems
Experience/familiarity with the following products is preferred:
