The Principal Technical Consultant works in the delivery function for Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Global Solution Services (GSS). This role is primarily responsible providing implementation services and support for HDS products. This is a lead role requiring the experience to either provide or to guide Technical Consultants to provide services at the customer site. These include pre-requisite checklists, initial installation, troubleshooting, implementation, customisation, integration and "hands on" knowledge transfer".
The Principal Technical Consultant works closely with GSS Solution Architects, Service Delivery Managers, other GSS Technical Consultants and the wider HDS organisation to deliver HDS services. This includes pre-sales activities, implementation and transition from project kick-off through to integration/testing/production mode to project close.
This role requires in-depth knowledge of storage architecture SAN design, implementation and administration. The Principal Technical Consultant will guide and take responsibility for teams that install, administer, configure, and deploy effective Storage solutions. The Principal Technical Consultant must be able to own and lead the support and troubleshooting of problems in a multi-fabric SAN environment. Zoning and partitioning skills are required, and knowledge in data migration technology is required.
The Principal Technical Consultant will be both a team leader and member for implementations of solutions as described above.
Additionally, the Principal Technical Consultant must be able to take control of implementation issues and manage these through to completion, including supporting the customer and HDS through incident resolution.
The Principal Technical Consultant will also provide focused pre-sales support to Account Teams where required.
The Principal Technical Consultant will lead the management of Technical Services capabilities as directed by Professional Services Delivery Manager
Responsibilities
* Establish and maintain a high level of awareness of HDS Products & Services including the latest technical advances within all areas covered by HDS. * Work closely with the Solution Architect team to understand the design and implementation service. * Review, refine and implement work plans associated with a Statement of Work (SOW) * Accountable for allocated service deliverables defined in an SOW and assume responsibility for any issues. * Attend and lead planning sessions as required to provide technical input to better define the scope and deliverables for a service. * Technical Lead of Delivery team on project by project basis * Act as the customer contact point during a service implementation for the escalation of issues and work with the customer and HDS support organisations to obtain resolution. * Participates in meetings with task groups or clients to resolve issues and define a plan of action. * Prepares, maintains and submits activity/progress reports and time recording/management reports in accordance with published procedures. * Keeps Project Managers informed of activities, alerting of any issues promptly. Provides updates to CLARIFY problem tracking system and or other technical applications for Software implementation and Problem Reporting/Resolution. * Proactively alert customer and manager of potential problems based upon strong working knowledge of software and hardware compatibility within the customer's environment. * Assist in the development of implementation services with the Solution Architect Team. * Act as mentor to GSS Technical Consultants for Field implementations * Participate in Local and Global Technical Service leadership groups Profile * 5 years of technical consulting experience * 2 years of Lead Technical experience involving management of Technical Project team members * At least 5 years of customer-facing experience consulting on enterprise-class applications * Certification or in-depth experience in SAN and storage design * Certification or in-depth experience in HDS SAN components * Experience with HDS storage hardware and software preferred. * Experience with SAN and storage systems from EMC, HP, SUN and IBM desirable * Experience with applications and databases desirable * Experience in operating systems administration across UNIX and Windows required. Mainframe is desirable. * Experience with network design * Experience with dealing with problem and incident resolution Competencies · Ability to lead Internal Project Teams, Implementation Teams and to act in manager's role as required. · Ability to take responsibility for leading a "Virtual Team" · Deep and broad technical knowledge of storage products and solutions and the overall IT environment. Knowledge of HDS products and services is preferred. · Knowledge of network technology, including switches/routers, LAN / WAN and networking connectivity. · In-depth knowledge of SAN design methodology · Knowledge of storage layout characteristics for performance, sizing and planning · In-depth knowledge of data migration, consolidation and disaster recovery methodologies and their application · Ability to work with senior management, client management and technical personnel · Ability to think strategically and act as a facilitator · Excellent analytical and communication skills · Ability to speak authoritatively on storage technology and related subject matters · Technical background sufficient to understand the technologies and technical issues involved with storage products
