Materials Process & Physics Manager K

Oversees personnel who support the development and implementation of assembly technology equipment and processes for use on current and future airplane programs. Job responsibilities include developing workgroup goals, objectives, and related metrics to ensure alignment with customer requirements. The manager will need to provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes, and will develop/motivate employees to achieve goals for productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction. In addition, the manager will also convey organizational messages to facilitate the accomplishment of workgroup and project or process goals, and will proactively communicate with employees, peers, and customers. This position includes the management of a development assembly lab; therefore, the manager will be required to implement policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure consistent execution of processes that meet Boeing safety and other regulatory requirements.

Ensures collaboration of direct reports with others on the tasks assigned. Maintains communication with direct reports, fellow K level managers, and others to identify and resolve any issues and ensure the successful completion of the project.

Technical

• Assembly Process
General knowledge of assembly and production processes, manufacturing capabilities (e.g., composites, structures), and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g., design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, wiring diagrams and schematics, functional tests, supplier data). Ability to differentiate production (manufacturing) processes and requirements from in-service procedures and requirements.

• Intellectual Property
General understanding of intellectual property interests, and the ability to recognize and/or exploit the value of intellectual property as part of business transactions.

• Material/Engineer Principles
General ability to apply knowledge of materials engineering and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems and sub-systems.

• Process Improvement Methods
General knowledge of product and process improvement methodologies (e.g., 6-Sigma, LEAN).

• Process Management Skills
General ability to determine the process to be used to accomplish goals, properly document processes, support people and activities, understand how to separate and combine tasks into efficient work flow, identify opportunities for synergy and integration, and simplify complex processes.

• Proj Management Theory/Concept
General knowledge of Project Management theory, concepts and principles (e.g. theory of constraints, critical path methodology, project risk management, project scope management, project management lifecycle etc). Provides specific guidance to non-management personnel.

Other Job related information
The ideal candidate should possess a an Engineering Degree, have experience in managing large development projects and possess leadership and communication skills. Knowledge of assembly processes such as drilling, fastening, and torque equipment as well as experience with portable assembly tooling and right-sized automated assembly equipment is highly desired.
