Mechanical System Design & Analysis Engineer 1
Space Exploration Houston is seeking several highly motivated and experienced mechanical design engineers on International Space Station (ISS) program reporting to the Docking Systems Team Manager and also in the Houston Design Center (HDC) reporting the HDC Manager. The docking systems design engineer creates mechanical and mechanism designs by creating CAD layouts, models, and drawings for a new international common docking adapter (ICDA) using NX6. Key experience and skills required to be successful in this environment include: design and development of spaceflight and human space flight structural and mechanical systems using computer aided design (CAD) tools. The Houston Design Center supports various design needs across the Enterprise, but primarily supporting Boeing Commercial Aircraft product lines, including 787. Enterprise support work involves developing design models using CATIA and/or NX6 in a model-based definition (MBD) environment and releasing data sets in TeamCenter or Enovia/DCAC product data manager (PDM). Creates master models (MMs), relational layout models (RLMs), source control drawings (SCDs), component assembly requirements models (CARMs) to create and release assembly model MBDs. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and suppliers. Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment. Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system designs/proposals to provide design documentation and high-level requirements to downstream users/customers. Performs detail design development and modification of mechanical and fluid system installations. Performs spatial integration at system or component level and modification of mechanisms, systems, primary and secondary structure. Assists in preparing technical documents for mechanical components and systems. Assists in supporting proposal preparation and new business development efforts. Supports the development and documentation of mechanical systems. Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system designs/proposals to provide design documentation and high-level requirements to downstream users/customers. Performs limited detail design development and modification of mechanical and fluid system installations. Supports team in performing spatial integration at system or component level and modification of mechanisms/landing gear/ordinance systems. Assists in preparing technical documents for mechanical components and systems. Assists in supporting proposal preparation and new business development efforts. Works under close supervision.

Basic knowledge of mechanical component and system design, analysis, and integration. Basic knowledge of the tools required for design, analysis, evaluation, and integration (i.e. computer aided design systems, mathematical modeling software, tolerance analysis software).

Typical Education/Experience
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
