Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate major computer network initiatives. Researches, evaluates, and recommends new computer network equipment and technologies. Utilizes monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to trouble shoot and isolate problems, gauge network performance, and trace data and protocol activity. Devises solutions to complex operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment. Develops and executes contingency plans for network software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages. Provides internal consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, company management and departmental clients. Assists in internal training programs. Plans and coordinates major computer network initiatives. Collaborates with other technical staff and management in the testing of new software and network technologies. Keeps abreast of relevant technologies and maintains selected technical certifications.
Lead a team of network technicians and engineers in providing engineering and operational support for a global network infrastructure supporting a major Federal agency. Responsibilities include testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and managing various segments of the infrastructure. Repairing transmission media, including fiber optics, copper cables, and radio and satellite systems. Install the configuration for the operations of data processing, communications, and radio digital/analog equipment and systems. Operate and interpret the results of analog and digital test equipment and measure the quality or performance of broadband and wideband networks. Troubleshoot and repair communications and information systems and equipment through testing, isolation, diagnostics, and substitution. Support Secure Voice Center (SVC), Messaging Systems, and various other types of crypto equipment. Assist network technicians and systems administrators located at various posts globally, in troubleshooting and resolving In-Line Network Encryption (INE) equipment and system problems. Design, construct, assemble and wire equipment racks. Interpret and generate detailed technical drawings and block diagrams utilizing Microsoft VISIO. The preferred candidate must have a proven track record in leading, mentoring, and supervising diverse group of network technicians; as well as a demonstrated experience in providing superb customer support over the phone and in writing. Solid writing and verbal communication skill is an absolute requirement. Selected candidate must be able to conduct technical training sessions when required, and also brief upper management on issues from time to time.
Required Qualifications:
Requires Bachelors Degree or equivalent and twelve to fifteen years of related experience. Technical training in computer science or related field preferred. CCNA certification or candidacy required. Operator/Maintenance training on various cryptos (including KG84, KG194, KIV-7, KY57/58, KG235, TACLANE). Experience in the technical control environment. Basic electronics repair. Technical writing experience highly sought after. Must have a current Top Secret clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
CCNA certification or candidacy required. Cisco training or general networking certification (such as Network+) also a plus . Experience with repairing and terminating fiber optic cables a definite differentiator, as well as AutoCAD or VISIO experience, Radio/Satellite background, and experience with Voice Over IP.
