Network Technician
The Network Technician III performs installation and AMC activity for network equipment. A Network Technician III distributes and unpacks boxes containing network devices weighing approximately 50 lb each; places the devices in racks; plugs in predetermined cable; and runs jumpers, cross-connects, and wiring as required. The Network Technician III completes and terminates carrier circuits (T-1, T-3, Optical Carrier) to network equipment. He or she manually inputs an initial operating configuration and verifies device bootup, as required. He or she installs equipment configurations using pre-configured Cisco NCM templates. He or she disconnects and removes old network devices and associated cabling and cross-connects and removes and disposes of boxes and packing material. He or she provides as-built data to update the configuration database for communications and peripheral equipment associated with LANs. The Network Technician III analyzes and troubleshoots basic technical problems or issues. Network Technician III performs complex installations, AMCs, and provides as-built data to update the configuration database for data communications and peripheral equipment associated with LAN and IP networking. The Network Technician III also analyzes and troubleshoots complex technical problems or issues. He or she can develop standard configuration templates for the Cisco NCM. The Network Technician III acts as the lead technician/project technician for complex installations, AMCs, as well as for service calls for data communications and peripheral equipment associated with LAN and IP networking. The Network Technician III analyzes and troubleshoots more complex technical problems or issues involving network equipment, systems, other IT infrastructure elements, and application Network Technician III must be able to work overtime, rotating weekends, and evenings; support on-call duties; and travel to support other regional sites as l provide and maintain workforce resources who possess the appropriate qualifications, skills, training, and background to work in a complex network services environment. The following criteria is required: - Possess a bachelors degree or equivalent experience in networking.- Have 5 to 10 years of networking technologies experience. Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) or higher certification is preferred.- Must have exceptional skills with Cisco operating systems.- Must have in-depth knowledge of networking systems and infrastructure beyond the LAN environment.- Must be capable of utilizing information gathered from sniffers and other sources to analyze and troubleshoot complex application-performance problems.- Must have in-depth understanding of VOIP services and infrastructures.- Must have advanced knowledge in 802.11 wireless networks and be able to conduct studies of antenna illumination patterns.- Demonstrate good customer skills, the ability to work independently to complete assignments, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.- Be able to provide direction and assistance to teammates.- Have knowledge of IETF and IEEE standards, the National Electric Code, and the National Electric Safety standards.
