A number of the systems used, developed and supported by HP on the JSC Account use ORACLE database systems as their data stores. The primary function of this role is to support the ORACLE database instances and Oracle Application Middleware on production systems. There will be a focus on this position supporting the MJDI application. Release 1of MJDI has been rolled out and is in support, Release 3 rollout starts in October 2011, with further releases to follow.
Monitor the ORACLE database log files for significant or recurring errors, and investigate where appropriate. Monitor the database instances for performance issues or inefficiencies, and investigate where appropriate. Monitor the size of databases for capacity planning purposes. Install and tune ORACLE database instances as required. Install Oracle application software and third party application software as required. Ensure that database snapshots are taken appropriately. Ensure that ORACLE database information is backed up appropriately. Monitor the Oracle Application log files. Apply system and application updates when required. Ensure that relevant data is replicated where required. Housekeeping of the ORACLE databases. Automate regular tasks where appropriate. Liaise with ORACLE regarding technical support issues. Assist development teams in the design of logical and physical data models. Review all data models before coding of the related applications begins. Assist with the creation and population of databases for Unit and System test. Provide assessments for changes and input to bids for ORACLE database Applications and Systems. Investigate and resolve assigned Incidents. Investigate and fix assigned problems. Maintain documentation as required. Oracle Applications DBA
Essential Skills
Should have a minimum of two years experience supporting ORACLE 10G databases in a Database Administrator role. Experience of ORACLE RAC and Oracle Application Server on a UNIX or LINUX platform production enterprise environment. Experience of supporting WEBLOGIC. Oracle Application Server 10.12 and 10.13 Able to write scripts for a UNIX platform. Apps DBA Must be able and willing to become Security Cleared if SC is not held.
Desirable skills A good understanding of networking. An understanding of SAN technology. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. LINUX / UNIX Administration. Report writing. Knowledge of and practical experience of working to ITIL V3 processes. Change management and process improvement skills. Job: Information Technology
