Responsibilities :
The position calls for a person who can lead the strategy, architecture of oracle applications environments for a global and 24x7 operational application foot print. Person with hands on experience on Oracle application database administration with experience in providing expertise in overall application database/technology strategy, working with management in future technology roadmap decision making. This person will be responsible to manage a team of outsourced DBA’s that currently provide database administration support functions for Nuance.
Person should have sound experience in maintaining Oracle database and Oracle application database administration for global spread corporations with 24x7 high availability requirement environments, experience in resolving complex database issues, problem determinations, performance optimization, implementation of failover, disaster recovery and security protocols. Should have hands on experience on performing all aspects of Oracle applications database administration including but not limited to maintenance of Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g in Sun/Unix/Linux environment, experience in implementation or migration to Oracle 10G/11G RAC, ASM, Partitioning, RMAN backup and recovery configuration, OEM grid control, Oracle data guard and Oracle streams replication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Overall ownership of high availability and performance levels of applications and databases for 24x7 business operations.
Provide strategy in overall system design, planning, communication, presenting solution options for management consideration in the area of application and database management. Possess personal ability to perform tasks/ possess abilities including (but not limited to): * Install and upgrades Oracle database and applications software as required * Create, maintain instances for development, production, support and project activities * Monitor database performance to insure the best possible configuration * Has a strong knowledge of operating system specific issues related to the database and is able to create operating system scripts to automate DBA functions * Is knowledgeable about the applications that use a database (Other than Oracle applications) * Perform patch analysis to provide details on pre-requisites, impact on applications, integrations * Maintain applications & database patch levels, performance tuning, backup, recovery under different failure scenarios and disaster recovery situations * Able to analyze operating system specific issues related to the database, applications and is able to create operating system scripts to automate many DBA functions * Work with application development teams and infrastructure teams to secure and protect valuable data from inappropriate access or data loss * Provide regular status, operational reports, incident and change reports * Document all changes to follow the change management procedures * Create Instance management plans (refresh, backup, availability, switchover), release plans * Support application development activities, which may include some of the more complex issues of application development such as application tuning, security access, software installation and software maintenance * Determine the risk potential for various configurations and options for database administration and is able to communicate the issues to development staff, managers and team as required
Qualifications :
Education/Experience/Skills/Abilities:
* Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent * 5 -10 years of experience with Oracle DB development and administration in various versions (9i, 10G, 11G) and in UNIX/Linux environments. Proficient in all aspects of DBA functions in 11i/R12 releases of Oracle applications * Working experience in Database & application upgrade projects with complex customized environment * Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager with grid control * Working experience in deploying Oracle RAC, ASM in UNIX/Linux environment. * Advanced understanding of Oracle data guard and Oracle streams replication. * Excellent DB performance tuning skills, usage of AWR, ADDM features * Exposure with SAN (storage area network) and RAID configuration * Knowledge on PL/SQL/workflow, UNIX/LINUX including shell scripting * Applicable Unix / Linux / Oracle certification’s preferred * Strategic thinking, process improvements abilities * Good system, analytical , decision making, planning, execution skills. * Willingness and ability to learn new technologies, train others * Knowledge on Oracle Fusion Middleware, Identity Management, Single sign-on, Windows, Data Vault, Oracle Portal administration would be an added advantage
