Job Title: Kaleidoscope Corner & Fit Fun Program Director, Various Elementary Schools
*Working with children ages 5-12
Department: Extended Learning
Work Year/Schedule: 6:15am-8:00am/9:00am and/or 2:30pm/3:15pm-6:00pm, MONDAY - FRIDAY. Hours based upon school start and release time.
This is a Part Time Position. Weekly hours range from 10 to 30 depending on program(s) assigned.
Salary range: Minimum $12.00-$13.00 per hour (based on experience/education)

Job Description: Objectives: To Initiate personal contact with all Kaleidoscope Corner/ Fit Fun families and foster a positive environment for the children. To provide a nurturing and orderly physical environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children. To interpret the philosophy of Denver Public Schools to faculty, staff, parents, visitors and the community. To ensure that District policies and procedures are followed.
Essential Functions: .Be familiar with Kaleidoscope Policies and Procedures. .Be familiar with Colorado Department of Human Services Rules regulating Child Care centers. .Provide accurate and timely information on program operation as requested. .Oversee and guide the discipline process. .Interact positively with parents and refer questions and concerns to the Program Specialist as appropriate. .Promote a cooperative relationship with all Kaleidoscope/Fit Fun staff and school personnel. .Oversee day-to-day operations of the program. .Maintain a punctual, reliable schedule during program hours. .Follow staff conduct guidelines outlined in the staff handbook. .Perform and delegate facility maintenance and housekeeping duties as needed. .Develop a general daily schedule for the program. .Provide a variety of activities for children that are meaningful and age-appropriate. .Implement a system for lesson planning, which includes snacks, activities, centers etc. .Follow daily attendance procedures. .Communicate regularly regarding program and enrollment changes. .Maintain licensing ratio for staff to child. .Provide Program Specialist with complete list of needed materials and supplies according to purchasing guidelines. .Oversee Program Leaders' hours for your program. .Attend all orientations, trainings and staff meetings. .Implement the tracking system for your program. .Maintain parent tables according to established guidelines. .Be familiar with and responsible for your site's voicemail and communication policy. .Supervise Program Leaders to create a harmonious and efficient working environment. .Delegate appropriate responsibilities to Program Leaders. .Participate in training, evaluating and goal setting of Program Leaders. .Provide careful supervision of play areas to ensure children's safety. .Set and maintain appropriate standards for children's behavior following the discipline guidelines described in the staff handbook; use the discipline log as necessary. .Administer medication and maintain an accurate medication log. .Maintain and oversee the accident log and complete accident reports as required by Denver Public Schools. .Plan and implement a schedule of required fire and tornado drills. .Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: Verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting, or 4-H; and the Program Director must have completed at least one of the following qualifications:
a. A 4-year college degree with a major such as recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field. b. Two years of college training and 6 months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of 4 or more children. c. Three years (5,640 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of 4 or more children. The program director must complete 6 semester hours, 9 quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university, or 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first 9 months of employment. .Be at least 21 years of age. .Must be Able to become First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions and Medication Certified.

Essential Job Functions: PHYSICAL .Standing/Walking: Frequently, throughout work shift while performing classroom & gym supervision. Staff will be assigned to outside duties monitoring student activities, possible uneven surfaces. .Sitting: Frequently, while performing classroom activities/duties; can alternate with standing as needed. .Lift/Carry: Occasionally, 1-20 lbs.; instructional materials, books, binders, paperwork. May assist with younger children if assigned, lifting may occur up to 21-40 lbs. occasionally. .Bending/Twisting: Frequently, at knees/waist/neck while performing activities. .Push/Pull: Occasionally, using either and both hand/arm exerting 5-15 lbs. force; opening doors, drawers. .Climbing: Occasionally, stairs at some school locations and step ladders retrieving supplies. .Kneeling/Stooping: Occasionally, retrieving items on floor or lower shelf. .Hands/Arms: Constant use of both in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering/gripping while performing a variety of administrative, student-classroom, gym assistance. Overhead reaching is occasionally required. .Sight/Hearing/Speech: Constantly, to provide assistance to student. Assignment may require hand/eye coordination, depth perception and peripheral vision depending on assignment. .Other Physical Demands: Position requires playing of organized gym games and possible restraining of unruly student behavior. Assistance is available by utilizing other staff.
MENTAL . Frequent mental alertness required in teaching activity of assigned students. . Must possess necessary communication skills, written and oral to complete assignments. . Must be able to read/write/speak English; possess interpersonal skills to work well with students, parents, and staff. . Must be able to adapt to a work environment that can include variety, changing classrooms, and multiple tasks. . Must be able to assist Program Director in classroom supervision.
