Job Description Job Title: Project Coordinator I 50-75% - NH23306 Job ID: 23306 Location: Fred Hutchinson Center Full/Part Time: Part-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular About Us Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home of three Nobel laureates, is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases. Recognized internationally for its pioneering work in bone-marrow transplantation, the Center ??s five scientific divisions collaborate to form a unique environment for conducting basic and applied science. The Hutchinson Center, in collaboration with its clinical and research partners, the University of Washington and Seattle Children ??s, is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Pacific Northwest. Join us and make a difference! About the Department Since its inception, the Pediatric Oncology Program ??s principal aim has been to improve the outcome for children with malignancies. Research in this program has focused on developmental aspects of hematopoiesis with the specific goal of developing novel therapeutic modalities. The Program currently seeks to hire a part-time Project Coordinator to work independently and collaboratively in support of its research projects. This position will work under the direction of the Program Administrator and will assist in the coordination and submission of all materials for initial grant/contract proposals and renewals. The Coordinator will monitor project budgets, ensuring the appropriate allocations of funds according to grant/contract requirements and will act as a liaison with Center personnel and external organizations with regard to the administration of the Program. Responsibilities ?¢ Coordinate and complete materials for submission of initial grant/contract applications and renewals; investigate potential sources of new funding. ?¢ Assist in monitoring project budgets, ensuring the appropriate allocation of funds according to grant/contract requirements ?¢ Monitor payroll on a consistent basis to ensure personnel are being appropriately charged to project budgets ?¢ Approve purchase requisitions for laboratory and office supplies/equipment; work closely with laboratory-based research technicians/lab aides responsible for maintaining supply stocks. ?¢ Research, compile and format information into documents, spreadsheets, and databases. ?¢ Produce ad hoc and recurring reports ?¢ Maintain ongoing communication with faculty members and program administrator on program operations, soliciting direction as needed. ?¢ Coordinate, prepare and maintain regulatory documents for projects/studies; assist faculty and clinical trial coordinators with new and renewing protocols. ?¢ Use a variety of software applications of research, track, compose, schedule and coordinate program communications ?¢ Act as an information resource to faculty and staff on FHCRC organizational policies and procedures. ?¢ Administer general office procedures and other duties as necessary. Qualifications This position requires 2+ years of experience in administrative support with some direct project coordination experience; Bachelor ??s degree preferred, but not required. Prior experience in a fast-paced academic/research environment will serve the candidate well. Must be able to work under pressure in a highly-dynamic environment where priorities can shift without advance warning. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, and precise attention to detail are critical in this position. Strong MS Word and Excel skills are important. Familiarity with PeopleSoft and Crystal Reports a plus. The Project Coordinator will work with a variety of documents and spreadsheets containing sensitive/proprietary information, so the ability to maintain confidentiality is critical. The ability to work both independently and, as part of a team, is essential. This individual will demonstrate flexibility as well as a proactive approach in solving inefficiencies. Knowledge of NIH grant application procedures, budget monitoring and medical terminology is helpful.
