Description:
Position Overview:
Performs various scientific tasks related to environmental or hazardous waste projects such as field work, sampling, and assisting in report preparation. Some assignments involve the use of computer applications (e.g., spreadsheets, etc.). Willingness to travel and/or relocate to field sites is expected.
RTLA Field Crew Member shall be prepared to accomplish the following:
a. Data Collection. Collect data on soil, flora, fauna, hydrology, elevation, slope, and other biophysical characteristics to assess the environmental effects of training activities. Support shall include collecting data for each inventory and survey using hand-held data loggers, written log sheets and global positioning systems for incorporation into the RTLA database. The RTLA Field Crew Member shall ensure all data is collected and recorded in the format requested by the Senior RTLA Field Crew Member, RTLA Coordinator, or other ITAM staff member.
Data Analysis. Assist the Senior RTLA Field Crew Member, Senior RTLA Coordinator, or ITAM staff with data entry, summarizing, and analyzing field data. Support shall include assisting the ITAM staff in determining trends in ecosystem populations, community structure, species distribution, species abundance and densities, diversity indices, and soil erosion affected by military training activities
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs various field and office tasks requiring the application of basic scientific principles and fundamental theories.
Reviews and analyzes data collected in environmental sampling programs.
Researches and compiles background data in support of an environmental project.
May assist in permit application development.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Qualifications
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year degree in a science curriculum (physical, natural or biological sciences) related to the assigned discipline and 0-3 years of related work experience.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Familiarity with MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint and have a working knowledge of ArcMap
Must possess capability for fieldwork involving heavy lifting and climbing over rough terrain under various weather conditions.
Must have a current valid Drivers License.
Must be able to receive a CAC card.
